Listen to this episode from The Muscle Makeover on Spotify. Being "healthy" isn't exclusive to physical health. Our mental and emotional health, including our relationships, play a huge role in our overall health and wellbeing. On this episode I'm joined by marriage and relationship expert, Beth Mil...

Good advice! Wives should listen up too!

Good advice!
Wives should listen up too!

Men, this one is for you. Let's do a quick heart check. Note: it definitely applies to ladies as well, but I'm talking directly to guys for now.

A few tough questions for you.

Do you find yourself speaking with an attractive colleague, co-worker, or acquaintance without making it clear that you're married? If so, why? Are you looking for personal validation (that you're charming, attractive, desirable) or perhaps more?

Some agree that flirting is harmless, but let me just put that to rest: flirting is never harmless. How would your wife feel if she watched a video of how you talk to the woman you're flirting with?

When you say "I do" to your wife, you grant exclusive, irrevocable rights of your love to her. This doesn't mean you're rude or disrespectful of others, it just means that no other relationship is a candidate for romantic intimacy; emotional or physical.

I've found two ways to make sure my interactions with other women are honoring to my wife. They may help you too.

1.) Mention your wife often and speak of her well.

By talking about your wife positively you bring her into the conversation. She's a real person, with a name, and it's clear that you care about her. This will ward off any sense that you're "on the market". Crystal clear.

2.) Imagine she's hearing or will hear every word you say.

I keep this question in the back of my mind: "If Selena were listening to this or seeing this, what would she think?" For me, this is the most vivid reminder that everything I do or say also affects her.

Men, honor your wife!! Especially when she's not around. In doing so, you're protecting her and guarding your marriage.

Go and be men,
Ryan

Had the wonderful privilege of marrying Johnny and Rachel (Donlin) Hutson this weekend! It was meaningful, beautiful and so much fun!
One of the things I love about a wedding is how it can speak to the married couples who are there. I always pray that each one would be freshly inspired and encouraged in their own relationships. A "mini" vow renewal of sorts.

Listening is a learned skill. We can help you with that!

Listening is a learned skill.
We can help you with that!

Learning to listen is job #1 in building a healthy connection. We spend too much time trying to be heard and too little time wanting to understand the person speaking. I often tell people to learn to be a better listener than the person is doing being a communicator. This usually means to learn how to hear what is going on inside the person at an emotional level or experience.

“You sound hurt and shocked by what I said earlier”
“You seem disconnected. Is that because of something I’ve done?”
“I see that you are angry. But it seems like maybe your are scared or hurt.”

Practice being a great listener and watch you relationship improve right away!

At Love Like That, we take a strong stand against po*******hy because we absolutely believe it violates God’s heart and will for us in every way, not the least of which is the damage it does to our marriages and families.

We really like our posts to be positive encouragement, often laced with humor.
But there are times we need to bring a strong and serious word. Feeling that deeply right now ... because we know this is an issue in many Christian families ... it’s not just “out there” in the world. So if this hits home for you, let today be the day it stops!
*If the struggle to quit seems too big, know there IS help! If it’s not you but your spouse who is involved, there is help for you (and for them if they’ll respond). We can point you to several really great resources/people. Please reach out; we are a safe place for you to start your journey of freedom. We care for you with the honor, grace and love that flows from the heart of God.

Toxic thinking eats away at our relationships. Think about what you’re thinking about!
It can be hard work to recognize AND change your unhealthy thoughts. But it’s so worth it. Your own well being and your relationships are worth it.
Reach out if you want a safe person to process this with!

Which one do you struggle with most?

The good news is once you are aware of toxic thinking habits you can wire them out in just 63 days! So even though it may be painful to acknowledge and work through a toxic habit, it’s possible! This is what I’ve spent my life researching and studying, and why I developed the Neurocycle which is a 5 step system to help identify & eliminate toxic thinking habits, and rebuild healthy new neural networks.

If you want to learn more about the Neurocycle and how to use it in your life, register for my free NeuroCycle webinar on Feb 27th here: https://neurocycle.eventbrite.com

This is also the main subject of my new book Cleaning up Your Mental Mess (out March 2nd!). You can pre-order your copy at: https://www.cleaningupyourmentalmess.com
