QUINLAN, Texas — February 18, 2022 — Quinlan ISD announced today that their Local Designation System as part of the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) has been approved.

Made possible by House Bill 3 passed during the 86th Legislative Session, the Teacher Incentive Allotment provides a pathway for the most effective teachers to earn higher salaries while enabling districts in rural and high-needs areas to improve educator recruitment and retention. Through their approved Local Designation System, Quinlan ISD will implement a system that rewards quality educators and helps foster success and equity in the classroom. Quinlan ISD is in Cohort C, one of the early adopters of TIA and the first fully approved district in Hunt County.

The intensive multi-step application process included reviewing their educator evaluation plans, student progress measurements, and stakeholder engagement. In Quinlan ISD’s plan, all teachers are eligible to earn designations. For the 2020-2021 year, nineteen QISD teachers earned designations in one of three categories: Recognized, Exemplary, or Masters. Each designation carries a different incentive pay range of an additional $6,686 to $26,198 per year. This designation will be added to the teachers’ certification and valid for five years. All teachers have the opportunity to qualify for designations each year. TEA allows approved districts to retain 10% of the designated funds for administrative or other costs, but the QISD stakeholders involved in developing the plan decided that 100% should go to the teacher.

“As a smaller, rural school district, the Teacher Incentive Allotment will help us to be more competitive with larger districts when it comes to what we can offer teachers in regards to salary,” said Quinlan ISD Superintendent Jeff Irvin. “This recognizes and rewards our current teachers for their hard work in the classroom and will help us to continue to attract highly effective teachers in the future. I offer my hearty congratulations to our valued teachers on achieving this exciting recognition.”
