Bags of soil. Which is which? Container mix? Potting soil? Gardening soil? Soil conditioner. Raised bed mix? Soilless mix? Organic compost? Bulk soil? It’s pretty confusing. But we have answers for you at our upcoming GARDEN FAIRE!. Saturday September 12 from 10-3. Stop in from 10-11 and Kevin Marini will be speaking on “Nurturing Healthy Soils”. He’ll be discussing what soil really is, how to enhance it for what you are growing, and he’ll define the content and uses for all of these types of bagged and bulk soil products. It’s a super interesting talk!

A typical question that is addressed is what kind of bagged soil product should be used in containers? When planting in containers, a product that is specifically designed for containers should be used. Roots need oxygen or they’ll suffocate (drown). Container or potting soils contain additional products like perlite or vermiculite to add oxygen spaces in the soil so the roots aren’t sitting for extended periods with air. Kevin will be addressing this subject and more during his talk.

For more information come to the class! And don’t miss the Garden Faire! Saturday, September 12 from 10-3. There’s great information, plants and garden items for sale, kid’s activities, talks and classes, and cool swag. This is a HUGE event and it is FREE! Maidu Center, 1550 Maidu Drive, Roseville.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Jane Roberti for bringing so many 4-H and FFA kids out for the Plumas-Sierra County Fair Work Day!

We had a fantastic turnout, and it was wonderful to see so many young people and their parents giving their time and rolling up their sleeves to help get the fairgrounds ready. We truly appreciate each and every one of you.

Our fair is built on community, and Saturday was a great reminder of that. We can’t wait to see everyone at the Plumas-Sierra County Fair!
