📣Introducing Blue Devils Then & Now!💙

For some Blue Devils, QPS feels so much like home that they choose to build their careers here, too! They return to the same halls they once walked as students, this time helping shape the next generation.

We’re kicking off a new series highlighting QHS alumni who now work throughout Quincy Public Schools! First up is Shanti Bowen, QHS Class of 2002, who has spent the past 15 years working in QPS and now serves as an ED teacher at Quincy Senior High School.

From Blue Devil student to Blue Devil staff member, we love seeing our alumni come full circle and give back to the schools and community that helped shape them!

Once a Blue Devil, always a Blue Devil!💙

QHS Class of 2017 alum Makayla Briggs creating meaningful opportunities in the classroom for her music students! 💙

🌟DREAM BIG GRANT SPOTLIGHT!🌟

Our next grant spotlight takes us to Denman Elementary, where music teacher and proud QHS alum Ms. Makayla Briggs is helping her students learn, create, and make music together!🎼🎶

The QPS Foundation was thrilled to award Ms. Briggs a DREAM BIG grant to replace and update the Orff instruments used by her K-5 music students. These new instruments will give more access to quality, hands-on music experiences while allowing them to explore rhythm and melody in meaningful ways!

We especially love seeing QHS Alumni come full circle and DREAM BIG for the next generation of QPS students!

Quincy High School alumna Isabella Green ’23 is already making her mark through music!🎵 From the QHS stage, drumline and show choir to studying Music Education at Illinois State University, Isabella is turning the experiences that shaped her into opportunities to lead and inspire others.

She’s made history with a collegiate a ca****la group, stepped into the role of music director and even returned home as Vocal Director for Quincy Community Theatre’s Footloose. Through it all, the mentors, friendships and memories she found in A Building continue to inspire her next chapter.💙🎤

For Mark Duker ’89, a love of music that started in Quincy’s A Building became a career spanning more than three decades. From QHS musicals and choir to leading award-winning music programs — and even hearing a recording he performed on featured in HBO’s The White Lotus — music has taken Mark farther than he ever imagined.🎵

Now newly retired from the classroom, Mark reflects on the QHS teachers, experiences and relationships that helped shape the educator he became.💙

As a member of the QHS Class of 1994, Adam Yates’ journey began in A Building — surrounded by music, friendships, and mentors who helped shape who he would become. From marching band and football games to a career serving others, those experiences stayed with him long after graduation.🎵

After serving in the Marines and spending 27 years with the Quincy Police Department, Adam now leads the community he has always called home as Quincy’s Chief of Police. Even today, music remains a constant, connecting him back to the memories and mentors that started it all.💙
