Knife violence is a major public safety problem in Boston and cities across the United States. There have been a surge of serious stabbings this summer in Boston, including at South Station during rush hour resulting in a fatality on August 12, two stabbed at North Station on August 13, and a fatal stabbing in Dorchester on August 17. I asked Boston Police to work with me to coordinate a knife collection program to give residents an opportunity to safely discard legal or illegal knives or machetes without incrimination. See attached letter I sent this week to Boston Police Commissioner Cox. Boston works best when we work together!
