Indigenous Peoples’ Day: Honoring Indigenous Communities & Raising Awareness of MMIW ❤
On Mon, Oct 12, FRC recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a time to honor the histories, cultures, sovereignty, and continuing contributions of Indigenous peoples and Tribal Nations. Here in the Upper Feather River region, we offer special recognition to the Yamani Maidu and their enduring connection to the lands and waters that are part of our shared community.
This year, we are also drawing attention to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). Indigenous families, survivors, and advocates have long worked to raise awareness of this crisis and to seek answers, justice, and safety for their communities.
We invite students, faculty, and staff to wear red on Monday in solidarity with missing and murdered Indigenous women and their families. Red is a symbol of MMIW awareness. Wearing it can help make this issue visible and open conversations that extend beyond a single day.
Red ribbons are also available for pickup in the Student Lounge, Administration Office, and Advising Office. We encourage campus community members to pick up a ribbon and wear it on Monday, October 12, as a visible expression of solidarity.
