Another successful Agronomy Crops Field Day is in the books! 🚜🌱

Farmers and community members joined researchers in the field to get a closer look at the latest studies and checkoff sponsored research by the Maryland Soybean Board and Maryland Grain Producers.

We covered w**d science, small grains, drone technology, phosphorus uptake, and more. Attendees got a closer look at the UMD TAPS competition by walking through the individual plots to see how different decisions like planting date, fertilizer, and irrigation influences the yield.

It has been a busy summer full of field days and learning. We look forward to showcasing more research projects and highlighting the excellent work of our farmers, ag techs, staff, and faculty. 🌱

Last week, we held our annual NEWSS W**d Field Contest at the Wye Research and Education Center. 🌾

Graduate and undergraduate students from an array of colleges nationwide put their agricultural, research, and crop protection knowledge to the test through a series of exercises. 🌿🌱

Thank you to everyone who attended! We hope our contestants feel more equipped for their future professions in w**d management and agriculture! 🧑‍🌾🚜

Today we are highlighting Kayshan Vidanegamage who is working at the Beltsville REC learning more about pesticide application, integrated pest management, organic insecticides, and how research plays a role in helping farmers across Maryland. 🌱☀
