For inclusiveness and general progress of

A Psychic change of the population IS REQUIRED.
PEOPLE have to stop seeing themselves through the objectification eyes of the white colonial masters.
Colonialism created the mentality of skin color as a form of identification. Guyanese still see themselves this way. Rampant ethnocentrism and racism.

If the population is divided there will never be any substantive growth.

Why can't this be a "self help" project with full participation from the community members?

Schools, bridges and road were built by community members in the 60s and 70s. It seems there is less participation from the community now.

I see people arguing over cash grants. I don't ever see people raising their hands to volunteer for clean up.

Much like many Caribbean and South American countries, Guyana is still going through the process of decolonization. Independence did not fully break away from colonial systems. The political, economic, and social structures still reflect the British framework.
As Frantz Fanon argues, decolonization is not just about removing colonial rulers. It requires a complete transformation of institutions and power structures. In Guyana, that transformation is still incomplete.
At the same time, W. E. B. Du Bois helps explain how colonial influence continues at the level of mindset. His idea of double consciousness shows how people can internalize external standards and hierarchies. In Guyana, this shows up in how society and politics continue to mirror colonial values.
So the issue is not only structural. It is also psychological. Colonialism did not fully leave. It changed form.
Decolonization is still in progress.

Guyana’s independence was grounded in the
PNC allegation that the existing electoral system unduly favoured the Indo-Guyanese community, the British government introduced for the elections of December 1964 a new system of proportional representation. Thereafter the PNC and a smaller, more conservative party formed a coalition government, led by Burnham, which took the colony into independence under its new name, Guyana, on May 26, 1966. The PNC gained full power in the general election of 1968, which was characterized by questionable rolls of overseas voters and widespread claims of electoral impropriety.
