UPDATE:

Dear Fellow Graduates:

We recently reported that on Friday, April 12, 2019 the FBI National Academy Associates Inc. learned of a report of a data compromise from various news outlets. Specifically Tech Crunch an online technology news blog. In this article, Tech Crunch reported that a hacker group claimed responsibility of hacking three chapter websites associated with the FBI National Academy Associates Inc. The author of the story shared with us the affected chapter websites were DC, Florida and North Carolina, all of which use a third party website vendor.

We have conducted a thorough check of our national database and verified there is no compromise of the National data and member information is safe and secure. The affected Chapters are working with the FBI to investigate this matter. At no time was any financial and/or other personal identifiable information compromised.

We continue to actively monitor our network and are working with the FBI to investigate this matter. Additionally, we continually update and safeguard our systems, using the best practices in the industry and are working with the Chapters to do the same.

As a general practice in prevention, it is always good to regularly change and create new unique passwords and PIN numbers and avoid using easily available information such as mother’s maiden name, date of birth or last four digits of your Social Security number. Order a copy of your credit report from each of the three credit-reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) at least once a year.

For more information, please reach out to your local Chapter or contact the National Office at [email protected]. The National Office is committed to providing the best service possible to our members and we continue to work collaboratively to make us the Strongest Law Enforcement Leadership Network in the World.

Stay safe and vigilant,

Howard M. Cook
Executive Director
