Building Reading Skills

Building Reading Skills I work one-on-one or in small learning pods with struggling readers, grades K-4. We cover the 5 components necessary to master in order to become a good reader.

I teach. They build those reading skills & strengthen those they mastered. Sight words too. I create kid's academic websites customized to each child's needs and preferences. Kids can pick the colors, the fonts, what if any pictures they want to upload, and they also pick the theme. Their favorite things-Sponge Bob, Terminator, a gorgeous beach, or softball. The apps I choose to add to the "work p

age" are based on the needs of your child, what their interests are and their reading level, where they struggle, and where they have started to building reading skills. Many games/apps focus on the weaknesses and are used to practice and improve skills. The child also picks a "goal book" that one day they hope to read. They start their "tutoring hour" with the same type of training and critical thinking we use in class. The last part is the blog. The kids are asked to finish their sessions by writing a little bit in their own blog. They can upload pictures and really, write about anything they want, although when they are my students, I also assign them prompts or questions. Many need simultaneous work on sight words as they need to have those lists mastered for each grade. These were originally designed to supplement the practice time and consistency necessary to achieve the reading goals they need to achieve and become good readers. These young readers were in grades Prek-4th.

Thanks to Barkhamsted Animal-Control for the original post that I totally stole. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Fostering a sense of connection to nature has an impact on students’ well-being and learning—and it can be as easy as bringing in a plant.

Gloucester, MA. 33 Commercial St., Gloucester, MA was the city where Test Prep and Tutoring started. It was actually called Test Prep on the Web when I started it back in 2005 when I was teaching ESL language arts and ESL US history. But when I moved to Gloucester, MA to become an academic case manager, I changed the name since I was tutoring ESL online and local high school students in person. I finally got around to breaking the page into two separate ones. English Made EZ continues teaching English to ESL and ELL students and Build Reading Skills for struggling young readers.
