Millie, STEAM Mobile Innovation Classroom, partnered with 6th grade students from Karshner Elementary for a “Mission on Mars”. Using virtual reality, Edison robots, LEGOs, microscopes, and more, students successfully completed their mission and saved a fellow astronaut!

The Puyallup High School FCCLA club members (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) attended and competed at the Region 3 STAR (Students Taking Actional with Recognition) Events on Friday, February 7th, 2025, with their career and technical education advisor Cassie Mueller.

Students are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events allow students to compete individually or as a team. There are more than 30 STAR Events students can choose to compete in, all of which recognize participants who demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities to actively identify an issue concerning families, careers, or communities, research the topic, and develop and implement a project to advocate for positive change.

Bounra Soeurng, Sandy Le, and Leilani Mausisa competed as a 3-person team in the Chapter Service Project Display earning a gold award and qualifying for the state level.

Noor Albermany competed as individual for Nutrition and Wellness and qualified for the state level.

Ten FCCLA members who attended the event at Sumner High School, volunteered, and evaluated other school's competitors.
This team of amazing students was recognized as being the Most Spirited chapter at the event!

Edgemont Junior High School career and technical education students in CTE teacher Scott Baxter’s classes completed a variety of projects during first semester:

• Students decorate cookie as part of the final test for the color theory unit in Introduction to Industrial Arts.
• Kamiya Richard (top, project leader), Maddie Paananen, Kimia Hasani, and Melayna Volkman work on the class’s community service project for first semester. The project is a free “little” library that will be installed in front of EJH 9th grade ELA teacher, Mrs. Mozrall's house, near the school.
• Mural Art is a final project for students in Introduction to Industrial Arts.
• 9th grader Maddie Paananen built her brother, Riley, a kicker ramp to launch off on his mountain bike, as her student choice final project in the Manufacturing Discoveries class.

On January 30th, Rogers High School Hosted their second annual Music Video Film Festival. Students from Puyallup High School, Emerald Ridge High School, and Rogers High School were given one week to prepare a music video for the competition. Judges from around the area selected the top videos for the following categories: editing, cinematography, performance in a video, and overall video of the year. Fans selected their favorite through a live vote at the event. Special thanks to the Rogers Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) students for putting together the awards for this year's show. Check out the videos on our YouTube channel!

Emerald Ridge Seniors Ben Reynolds and Seth Bond won "Video of the Year" for a music video they created for the House of Pain song "Jump Around." They used Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and PSD school bus to craft their video.

Area 7 DECA competition
Over 1,000 students from 24 high schools competed in this annual competition held at the Washington State Fairgrounds. Students competed in various categories, including mock role plays and written events, as well as start-up business plans. Scores are calculated by combining students' scores from the 100-question DECA test and their mock role play performances.

Rogers High School
Rogers DECA had 31 students qualify for the state conference, which will take place in Bellevue later this year. RHS had two area champions: Khloe Davis and Kaylin Weltch, who both took first place overall in their events.
RHS DECA member Amanda Xing was elected as Area 7 President. After a rigorous application process that included an interview, a test, a role-play, and a speech delivered to over 1,000 people, Amanda emerged victorious, besting two other candidates. Her dedication, leadership, and commitment to representing RHS will have a tremendous impact on the over 1,900 students in area 7. RHS DECA is advised by CTE Business and Marketing Teacher Alec Pulley.

Emerald Ridge High School
ERHS students showcased their business and marketing skills and earnd a chance to advance to the DECA State Career Development Conference (SCDC), held in Bellevue, WA, from February 27th to March 1st, 2025. ERHS DECA Advisor is CTE Business and Marketing Teacher Tom Jauch.
Highlights From This Year’s Area 7 Competition (2024-25)
• We took 140 students to the competition.
• 65 ERHS students qualified for SCDC!
• ERHS students’ names were called 74 times to receive awards.
• 9 students qualified for two events, all from BAM II & BAM III classes.
• 95% of BAM II & BAM III students qualified for DECA State.
• 30 students from our first year Business & Marketing I class qualified for state.
Compared to previous years…
• Area 7 Competition 2023-24:
o We brought 110 students to the Area 7 DECA competition.
o 45 students qualified for the State Career Development Conference (SCDC).
o 15 qualifiers were first-year Business & Marketing I students.

o We took 40 students to the competition.
o 15 students qualified for state, with only 1 qualifier from BAM I.

Students in 9th Grade Manufacturing Discoveries (Stahl Junior High) are learning about the importance of accurate measurements, and learning how to use the speed square, various saws, sanders, handheld and table routers, drilling accurate holes with the drill press, and all the work that goes along with finishing a quality wood working project.

At the beginning of November, PHS had 31 CTE students attend the DECA Western Regional Leadership Conference in Bellevue, WA. Students had the opportunity to attend a variety of business-related workshops and connect with students from 12 states across the western region of the US.

They are also partnering with Newell Hunt Furniture for a food drive this Holiday season. PHS's BAM III students decorated a Christmas tree at Newell Hunt for donations to be placed under. All food items will be donated to the Puyallup Food Bank.
