Here is a Mission Moment from Sara, our wonderful Site Coordinator at Karshner Elementary:
"It feels like this is the month of resilience.
As the years go by, I find myself more and more in awe of the families who spend the school year building connections, seeking resources, and navigating systems of support, only to lose access to many of those resources over the summer. Yet they return each fall with hope, determination, and a willingness to begin again.
Relationships and routines are rebuilt, and these families approach the new school year open to reconnecting with their school community. They continue to put themselves out there, asking for help when it is needed and advocating for their children despite the vulnerability that often requires. They support one another in ways that many people with greater access to resources may never fully understand.
At this time of year, I am especially grateful to be someone with whom families feel safe sharing their stories. I am humbled that they trust me with their experiences and generously share their time, insights, and knowledge of resources, even while knowing they will likely face countless barriers and navigate an incredible number of hoops to access them.
It is both incredible and humbling to have the opportunity to be a friendly, familiar face for their children. There is a quiet weight in holding the day-to-day realities of these families' lives, knowing how many layers of need and challenge exist beneath the surface. At the same time, there is shared joy in celebrating their children's accomplishments, growth, and everyday successes. Those moments remind me of the resilience, strength, and hope that families bring with them each year."
