DOLLY DAY IS COMING TO CHIEF LESCHI ELEMENTARY! ✨📚

Our elementary school is getting ready for Dolly Day — a “9 to 5” Read-a-Thon celebrating reading, imagination, and the joy of books! 🎶📖

Inspired by Dolly Parton’s incredible commitment to childhood literacy through her Imagination Library, Dolly Day is all about helping our students discover just how many doors reading can open.

Students and staff will celebrate together with a Dolly-inspired day full of reading, fun, and a whole lot of sparkle! ✨🤠📚

DID YOU KNOW? The berries served with our Dutch Waffle come straight from local fields? 🍓🫐We partner with Sidhu Farms in the Puyallup Valley to bring peak-ripeness flavors directly to our students and staff. Their berries are freshly picked and flash-frozen at maximum freshness, preserving high quality and rich taste year-round. Depending on the season, our mix rotates between raspberries, loganberries, marionberries, blueberries, boysenberries, and strawberries. Last year, our Food Services team participated in a professional development visit to Sidhu Farms, where staff toured the grounds and sampled their seasonal produce firsthand.

Last Friday, we held a school-wide assembly to honor Fishing Wars Recognition Day (Tuesday September 8th) - dił ti yabuk’ʷəłdat ʔə ti sčədadxʷ - This is the Recognition Day for the Fishing Wars.

Last week, our students and staff reflected upon the history, sovereignty, and enduring legacy of the Fish Wars—a critical movement where Pacific Northwest Indigenous Tribes fought state laws to protect their treaty rights.
We discussed the impact of the landmark 1974 Boldt Decision, which legally affirmed Native Tribes’ rights to 50% of harvestable fish on their traditional lands.
We honor the courageous leaders who fought, and continue to fight, for tribal sovereignty and environmental justice. Without them, we would not be here today!

“tix̌alikʷ ti ƛliti!” - We protect our treaty rights.”

We raise our hands to all the staff, students, Tribal Council members, and community members who shared their stories, voices, and knowledge with us this week!
