MTNA is saddened to share the news of Joan Reist’s passing on November 4. Joan served as MTNA president from 1999–2001. Holding numerous other positions at the national level, she also served as president of the Nebraska MTA. Joan was named an MTNA Foundation Fellow in 2001 and received the MTNA Distinguished Service Award in 2007.

An independent music teacher for more than three decades, Joan also served 28 years as director of the keyboard skills and piano pedagogy programs at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, from which she also held BM and MM degrees. She retired in 2001 as associate professor emerita.

MTNA remembers Joan as a dedicated champion for MTNA and the music teaching profession, and joins her loved ones in mourning her loss. She will be greatly missed.

Last month we had a very special guest visit our PV chapter, our wonderful state president Dr. Colleen Hunter. Always an honor to be in the presence of such tremendous and passionate educators.
