Talk with Visiting Mahsa R Fard, September's In Situ Polyculture Artist-In-Residence
Wednesday, Sept. 2nd at 6:30pm
at Putney Public Library

Mahsa R. Fard (b. Tehran, Iran) is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work explores memory, identity, and the emotional tension between private and public spaces, shaped by her experience as a woman growing up in Iran. Her paintings often depict solitary figures in intimate interiors or overgrown Persian gardens, accompanied by recurring women busts drawn from her personal sketches and quiet witnesses that carry layered histories.

Fard’s process blends planned composition with intuitive shifts. She often begins with source images that transform significantly through memory and emotion. Her use of color emerges instinctively, with tones like red and green carrying psychological and symbolic weight across her work.

She received her BFA in Art and Architecture from Azad University in Tehran in 2014 and her MFA from the Hoffberger School of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art in 2019.

UPDATE: the in-person poll indicated that SUNNY was the most popular name for our pal, who is now WAY bigger than when this picture was taken.

What name would you give to an exceptionally large pumpkin? (So far, suggestions include Kevin and Bruce.)

Free Yellow Barn Entry for Putney Library Patrons: Allen Ginsberg’s Howl with string quartet--reservations required!

Friday, July 31 | 7:30pm

The Big Barn, 46 Main St., Putney, VT

***Please note: NOT at Putney Library (but RIGHT next door :)***

This Friday night Yellow Barn presents Allen Ginsberg's "Howl". The complete poem will be narrated by William Sharp (Yellow Barn faculty member) with string quartet. (The composer writes: "The music emerges from the poem and then, as the piece evolves, the quartet becomes independent, commenting and colliding with the power of the poem and throwing it into a variety of textural reliefs...sometimes united in a close and intense rhythmic world and sometimes telling similar stories in separate ways.")

Artistic Director Seth Knopp has programmed "Howl" as part of a program that provides context and room for response. Opening the program is a piece for solo timpani called "Thunder Song" by Jerod Impichcha̱achaaha' Tate, a Chickasaw composer, performed by a 20-year-old percussionist who is a sight to see and sound to hear.

In celebration of storytelling, oral history, and our partnership with the Putney Public Library, we are offering complimentary tickets to all Putney Library patrons. To reserve tickets, write to [email protected] or call (802) 387-6637. Mention that you are a Putney Library patron and use the name on your membership. Tickets are available on a first come-first served basis. Please limit your request to two tickets per patron.
