Zimkids Orphan Trust Zimkids is built by orphans, run by orphans for orphans. In March 2011, we broke ground on a new home that opened in July 2012. A 501c3.

We provide nutritional, educational, vocational, medical and psychosocial support to over 300 orphans from ages 2 through 22. For more than a decade, Zimkids has been helping young people cope with life in a country ravaged by AIDS, corruption, and violence, where the life expectancy is 34 years of age. Zimkids not only feeds orphans but pays for their medical needs and provides educational and re

creational programs, as well as vocational training to help 300 young people in the Pumula North neighborhood of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe build better tomorrows. Built by four of the young people who grew up with us, under the supervision of director Tinashe Basa and founder Dennis Gaboury, it includes an educational resource Center, library, kitchen and clinic; a Computer training center; a market garden complete with drip irrigation technology, a sports field and chicken and egg production area. It is powered entirely by solar energy. Believing in empowering youth, we have a Council of Elders composed of our beneficiaries over the age of 15. Trained and supervised by our staff - all FORMER elders - they plan, schedule and direct many of our activities for younger children.

In 2022 something incredible happened that changed zimkids forever. Vimbiso Cheta, Sports Science graduate of the National University of Science and Technology and Founder of Vee Sports Academy discovered Zimkids. She is a constant and essential part of Zimkids since.
"I was planning a talent show in 2022. I saw their kids dancing on Facebook, followed the page and visited. The moment I walked in, I felt at home. The smiles, the joy, the love, it was a happy place & I knew I needed to be part of it.'

We sent Have-A-Look to a three year course in masonry sponsored by the city. He came back to the center to lay another course of brick when we were rejuvenating our vegetable beds. He has become a master at laying bricks. His graduation is coming up. The pink bags are filled with compost that we mixed with the soil.

Our supreme volunteer, Vimbiso, who heads our sports program brought in chess boards for all . Learning to play chess requires thinking and anticipation skills - at the core of what we do educationally. She also managed to bring a donation of ice cream filled cones, Another great day!

Thanks to a grant from the IPA foundation, we were able to replace the 14 year old greenhouse covering and rejuvenate our vegetable beds! Within two weeks of planting tomato, pepper and chumulia a type of kale)! seedlings we are already harvesting!
