CCC Cabin and Fire Tower Hike

Public Program: Saturday, August 22nd, 2026

Join a Ranger at Rendezvous Mountain for a short, uphill hike to the CCC cabin and Fire Tower. The unique history of the mountain will be discussed, and folks will be able to look inside the cabin. Meet in the upper parking lot at 10:30 am.

Fun Nature Fact:

The Eastern Fence Lizard is a common sight at Rendezvous Mtn. This female, with the wavy black lines along her back, has some interesting growth for her new tail.

Fun Nature Fact:

The eastern box turtle is one of four subspecies of box turtles found east of the Mississippi and is the most common terrestrial turtle in the United States. This turtle is named for its ability to completely box up inside its shell when it feels threatened.

Fun Nature Facts:

Whitetail bucks grow a new set of antlers each year. In the summer months, the antlers are covered in a soft, pre-calcified growing tissue called velvet. The velvet protects the blood vessels that are providing nutrients to the antlers for rapid growth.
