🇺🇸 Happy Military Family Appreciation Month!!

It's oh-so-easy to get caught up in our to-do list. Today, we're giving you permission to toss it out the door! 😀

After all, God is looking at your heart. That's really what matters to Him!

So regardless of what things you still need to get done today, take a minute to stop and refocus on the One who knows you intimately.

Never forget:

He sees you.
He knows you.
He loves you. Always, no matter what. 💙

Some of our members of the homeschool support group I lead at Fort Belvoir Home Educators headed into D.C. last week to the Art of the Americas museum and a few other destinations.

This club, D.C. Explorers, is one I created preCovid to help teens learn how to navigate urban areas and to work cohesively together to plan the entire excursion.

What clubs if any do your children participate ?

Happy 248th!!!

😂 😂 how do you teach grammar???

“Imagine you are homeschooling in a foreign country and get the chance to attend a conference that you know will provide you with the crucial motivation and practical tools needed to homeschool another year.

Then imagine that you need childcare to effectively attend the conference because your spouse is in the military and currently deployed. Or maybe your spouse is home and wants to attend with you, but you can’t call up your mom or sister or best friend to babysit because they all live a continent away.

This was the very real situation facing many US military homeschooling families stationed in Germany earlier this year. The second annual European Homeschool Conference, hosted by KMC Homeschoolers (Kaiserslautern Military Community Homeschoolers), was held in May in the small, beautiful Alpine ski town of Garmish, Germany. The conference organizers aimed to support and encourage military families as they navigate homeschooling in a challenging environment, especially when resources are hard to find.

But the lack of childcare was a serious obstacle for a lot of families.

Finding support amidst hostility

KMC Homeschoolers is located near the largest American military community outside of the United States. The group is characterized by a thriving network of homeschool families. Michelle Seagren founded the group in 2021 as a hub for homeschooling families and those interested in homeschooling. Since then, KMC Homeschoolers has grown to 477 families.

Natalie Mack, HSLDA’s military outreach coordinator and high school education consultant, connected with Seagren to learn how HSLDA could support military homeschooling families at the 2023 conference. Natalie suggested funding childcare for the attendees––as a military spouse having homeschooled overseas, she knew the significance of providing childcare.

“Living away from your family and ongoing deployments often means you have no support for childcare to be able to attend events like this,” Mack said.

Seagren agreed to Mack’s suggestion, and HSLDA provided funding for childcare. Thanks to your generosity, conference attendees who otherwise would have missed out experienced peace of mind and a more focused, encouraging conference experience.

US military personnel can homeschool lawfully in Germany, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

One major challenge for US homeschooling communities in Germany is obtaining resources, and this makes events like KMC’s conference crucial. The number of attendees doubled over last year’s, proving the need for unity and support is greater than ever.

One military homeschooling mother, Crystal Stapley, shared that “HSLDA’s sponsored childcare was brilliant. It made it realistic for a lot of families to come.”

Janina Coleman, another military homeschooling mom, told us that her husband had initially planned to stay home and take care of their daughter. But because of the childcare that your gifts made possible, he was able to attend. “It’s just an incredible opportunity for all homeschooling families overseas, because our resources are more limited than in the States,” Coleman said. “I am forever grateful!”

We at HSLDA are blessed to be the conduit between your generosity and these military homeschool families.

Thank you for partnering with us to make homeschooling possible!”

A few pics from our National Leaders Conference(NLC) 2023 in Asheville, NC.

I am so thankful that this year, we had 3 military homeschooling guests to join us- one is the VP of the group I am President of- Fort Belvoir Home Educators and the other two are leaders for Quantico Homeschoolers.

For those who don’t know much about the Military Outreach Program I created for HSLDA, serving leaders is a main aspect. Inviting them to be new attendees at NLC courtesy of a scholarship funded by Classical Conversations.

Also new this year at the NLC were two sponsors- the US Army and US Air Force!! Thankful for my ongoing collaboration with them too and expecting future collaborations with the USMC, USN and USCG.

School Liaisons are potential guests as well so let’s connect!

Happy Birthday to the United States Air Force! Thank you for protecting our skies and defending our nation for the past 76 years. ✈
