Hello, PHC!
We asked CLA department alumni to tell us about their time at PHC and their journey afterwards. Here is what we heard back from Caleb Sasser, a CLA major who is now Upper School Principal at a classical Christian school in Ohio.
"When I was making my way through my time at PHC I loved what I was learning, but I was not at all sure what I wanted to do when I graduated. CLA was appealing to me because it allowed me to take a variety of courses from a variety of professors and disciplines (Major Christian Authors with Dr. Veith, and Ethics with Dr. Roberts, AND Spinney's Intellectual History, yes please!)
"The teaching aspect of CLA, which was a huge emphasis at the time, was secondary for me. I loved the Pedagogy classes and my various teaching-related internships, but even after I graduated I was pretty sure I did not want to teach. The various other options I pursued post-school did not work out, and I did end up applying for, and being hired as, a fourth grade teacher at a classical Christian school near PHC.
"Somewhat to my surprise, I absolutely loved teaching. I have been at it ever since, have appreciated my pedagogy coursework on a nearly weekly basis, and have loved instructing the hearts and minds of students 4th-12th grade."
We hope it’s encouraging and exciting to hear where a PHC CLA student has gone. Stay tuned for further stories!
