🚀 CAIRE Research Lab | Highlights from AERA, NSTA, and NARST 2026

Over the past two weeks, the CAIRE Research Lab at Washington State University contributed to AERA Annual Meeting, NSTA National Conference, and NARST Annual International Conference with 16 presentations and leadership engagements.

Across these conferences, CAIRE advanced conversations on AI and science education—from research to practice:

🟢 AERA: Leading and contributing to discussions on AI-supported feedback, 3D learning, and the role of emerging technologies in education.

🟢 NSTA: Tingting Li co-led a full-day workshop supporting science educators in designing NGSS-aligned assessments using AI tools.

🟢 NARST: Presenting across multiple sessions, including a featured paper set on 3D learning progressions and the ADAPT-AI platform.

This conference season reflects CAIRE’s growing role in shaping human-centered AI for science education—through research leadership, teacher engagement, and collaborative innovation.

💡 Grateful for the conversations, partnerships, and momentum.

📣 Washington State Elementary Science Teachers (Grades 4–5) — Join Our AI + Science Assessment Design Study!

Are you interested in how responsible AI can support teachers in designing meaningful science assessments?

Researchers from Washington State University, WSU College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences, in partnership with American Institutes for Research, are inviting a group of elementary science teachers across Washington to participate in a research study focused on AI-supported tools that help teachers design NGSS-aligned science assessment tasks.

This project focuses on supporting teachers’ assessment design — NOT student use of AI tools.

👩‍🏫 What you’ll do:

🔹 Use an AI-supported tool to design science assessment tasks aligned with your curriculum
🔹 Implement the teacher-designed tasks in your classroom
🔹 Share feedback to help improve tools built for real classroom contexts
🎁 What you’ll receive:

✅ High-quality, no-cost professional learning
✅ Clock hours for attending project’s professional learning
✅ Free access to AI-supported assessment design tools
✅ A stipend of up to $1,500
