When you walk into Schweitzer Engineering Hall, one of the first spaces you’ll experience carries a very special name: the Diane Coughlin Welcome Center. ❤️🩶

Jim and Diane Coughlin believed in the vision for this building early, helping make it possible through their incredible generosity and commitment to WSU.

Diane’s contagious smile and warmth embodied exactly the feeling we want every student to have when they walk through the doors of Schweitzer Engineering Hall: welcomed, supported, and excited to be here.

Diane’s name—and the Coughlins’ impact—will welcome generations of students, alumni, faculty, industry partners, and friends for years to come.

We’re honored to share their story again as we prepare to open the doors on September 18.

WSU will name the welcome center at the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture’s Schweitzer Engineering Hall in honor of Coughlin, who kicked off fundraising efforts nearly three years ago.

The countdown is on! 🎉✈️

As we get closer to the grand opening of Schweitzer Engineering Hall on September 18, we're celebrating the partners whose vision and generosity helped bring this incredible building to life.

One of those partners is The Boeing Company. Its transformational investment created the Boeing Flight Deck and the Boeing Commons. These spaces will serve as premier destinations in Schweitzer Engineering Hall for collaboration, innovation, experiential learning, and engagement between students, faculty, and industry partners.

Thank you, Boeing, for your decades of partnership with WSU and for continuing to invest in the success of our students.

Join us in thanking The Boeing Company for helping make this vision a reality and for investing in generations of future engineers, designers, and innovators.

Congratulations to Professor John McCloy of the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Washington State University and his outstanding research team on receiving a prestigious R&D 100 Award!

Dr. McCloy and his collaborators were recognized for their groundbreaking project, "Engineered Cermets for Advanced Reactor Waste Disposal," an innovative effort focused on developing advanced materials for the safe immobilization of nuclear waste and the future of advanced nuclear energy.

The award recognizes a collaborative research effort led by Rutgers University in partnership with Washington State University, Savannah River National Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Alfred University, University of South Carolina, and Missouri S&T

This achievement demonstrates the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and the importance of partnerships among universities and national laboratories in advancing materials science, strengthening nuclear waste management, and addressing some of today's most significant energy challenges.
