WSU School of Food Science

WSU School of Food Science The School of Food Science (SFS) offers teaching, research, and extension programs in the areas of Food Science, Food Safety, and Fermentation Science.

The SFS, with eight faculty members, is administered by the WSU College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). The School of Food Science maintains strong undergraduate and graduate programs in food science (B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.). SFS also maintains a strong presence online with two programs: Master of Science in Agricultural Science with an emphasis on Food Science and C

ertificate of Proficiency in Food Science and Food Safety. The academic programs are offered with a unique co-operative program established with the Department of Animal, Veterinary, and Food Sciences administered by the University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS ).

Earlier this week, our graduate students Zoe Anderson, Swapnika Medikonda, and Miriam Ruiz all presented their research at the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) conference!

Zoe presented two different projects. One being "Peracetic acid supplementation of fungicide solutions reduces bacterial populations despite evidence of antagonistic interactions" and the other "Commercial cherry flume systems maintained consistent microbiological levels in water and on fruit through sanitizer management and water controls."

Swapnika presented "Evaluation of Rapid Detection of Kits for Listeria spp. on Food Contact Surfaces."

Miriam presented "Reduction of Listeria monocytogenes on raspberries and postharvest water by UV-C light."
