ing, performance, and theater to help them prepare for college. Founded by John Fraire, WSU's vice president for student affairs and enrollment, Performance as Education, uses theatre and performance as a springboard to increasing the college attendance and retention rates of Latino and other underserved high school students in the rural communities of Central Washington. The students are brought together with a team of professionals - theatre personnel, educators, counselors - and together, the students and the professionals, produce professional, top quality, original theatre for the state.

New Teacher Shoutout! Welcome Miexy Gonzales!

This will be Miexy Gonzales' 1st year teaching third grade at Park Orchard Elementary!

"As a first-year teacher I will have many "firsts", many things to learn, and many things to look forward to, but the one thing I am most excited about is making my students believe in themselves. Meet Martin Dominguez. A WHS Junior who plans to either attend WSU, EWU, CWU or the University of Georgia with an intended major in Business and Human Resources in fall 2018.

This young man is not only an athlete (football, wrestling, soccer) but a very busy student. Martin has taken Chicano Lit. And advanced mechanics/woods along with being apart of GEAR UP, helping out with his family's store, and now ASB.

When it comes to this program Martin said, "From this experience I took away to not be afraid and just be an open book because it can mean something to someone. To future students, this program can really help you in the long run."

Senior year will be just as busy for this young man, so let's support and be ready for the great things to come his way. Awesome job Martin!

Meet WHS Junior, Janette Gutierrez, who joined Las Memorias in 2016. She has been very active throughout her time in high school, from taking Summer Bridge classes (Algebra) to Distinguished Young Women and Wrestling! During her senior year she plans to apply to WSU and EWU! Here's what she had to say about the program, "What I took away from this experience is that I don't get shy anymore. I'm more confident. It helped me to stand up for myself. I will tell future students who want to do this to do it because it's a really good experience and you get to be confident and make new friends."

Let's cheer on Janette as she finishes up her junior year and prepares for her senior year. Keep up the good work! Expecting great things from you!
