🥼It’s official! Yesterday, we welcomed 142 future veterinarians to the veterinary profession at the college’s annual White Coat Ceremony. For these students, the white coat marks the beginning of a journey that will take them from the classroom and clinics to communities across Washington, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. 🖌 There’s something special about the Tile Ceremony. As part of orientation, each incoming student creates a tile representing something that inspired them to pursue veterinary medicine. This afternoon in the Lewis Alumni Centre, students took turns sharing the stories behind their tiles before adding them to the display.

Individually, each tile tells a story. Together, they create a picture of the — their inspirations, their dreams and the many paths that brought them to .

Day 2 of orientation brought more opportunities to connect! Second- and third-year veterinary students took part in some of the classic orientation skits about finding your footing in veterinary school before touring the Clinical Skills Laboratory, Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Worthman-Johnson Veterinary Anatomy Teaching Museum.

🤝 They’ve arrived! Today, the newest members of the family kicked off veterinary school orientation and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome the Class of 2030 to Washington State University! Four years, countless patients, plenty of late nights, and a whole lot of learning await. We can’t wait to see where this incredible class goes and all they’ll accomplish along the way!

As one of 10 veterinary student summer researcher fellows at , Lorelei Derenne is evaluating three commonly used medications for primary canine glaucoma: latanoprost, dorzolamide, and dorzolamide combined with timolol.

Her research aims to generate data on how these treatments perform in dogs with naturally occurring glaucoma, with the goal of helping veterinarians better understand treatment options for their patients.

🐮 As one of 10 veterinary student summer research fellows at , Aspen Scott is investigating how dairy cows respond to health challenges by examining changes in their immune systems at the molecular level. Aspen’s work could help researchers better understand how cows respond to disease and identify ways to improve their health and productivity.

🐏 As part of the Veterinary Student Summer Research Fellowship Program, Tessa Williams is investigating Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (M. ovi), a respiratory pathogen that affects sheep and can also be found in wild bighorn sheep.

Tessa’s research at the livestock-wildlife interface is helping researchers better understand how this pathogen moves between domestic and wild animal populations.
