Recently, Judge Maes and I successfully concluded a 5-session training initiative in Houston, Texas, focused on student engagement and strategies to improve student attendance. Key topics addressed during the initiative included Attendance, Attachment and Achievement, Trauma-Informed Care, Vicarious Trauma, Creating Problem-Solving Courts versus Trauma Courts, Resource Mapping and Community Collaboration, and Separating Myths from Facts about the School-to-Prison Pipeline.
