Pueblo is headed for 97 today.

Two heat problems look alike out there, and telling them apart decides whether you hand someone water or call 911.

Heat exhaustion is heavy sweating, thirst, headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness. Get them into shade, get the extra clothing off, cool them with cold compresses, small sips of cool water.

Heat stroke is confusion, slurred speech, loss of consciousness, seizures. Skin can be hot and dry or still soaking wet, so sweating does not rule it out. That one is 911.

The tell is the head, not the sweat.

Start cooling before the ambulance gets there. NIOSH says to move them to shade, get the outer clothing off, wet the skin, and put cold wet cloths or ice on the head, neck, armpits and groin.

Look at some of what we got at the Pueblo Farmers Market this weekend!

Peppers, squash, broccoli, cucumbers, beets, corn - all from the Valley Roots Food Hub booth, grown by Colorado farmers.

We spend our week teaching people what to do on somebody's worst day. But being rescue ready isn't only the training. It's the ordinary stuff too. What ends up in the fridge, the walk you take, looking after the heart you've got so you can help with someone else's.

Mineral Palace Park, Saturday mornings, 7:30 to noon. Go early and get some veggies!

And when you want the hands-on part, our CPR and first aid classes are right here in Pueblo.

Over 2,500 baseball fans learned to save a life at this month's MLB All-Star Game. ⚾

At the All-Star Village in Philadelphia, the American Heart Association taught more than 2,500 fans Hands-Only CPR. It's part of their Nation of Lifesavers movement, which aims to double the survival rate for cardiac arrest by 2030.

Here's why that matters close to home. Most cardiac arrests happen at home, in front of the people we love, so the person most likely to save your family is your family. And Hands-Only CPR is just what it sounds like: your two hands, no mouth-to-mouth, only minutes to learn.

We're bringing CPR to the market this Saturday! 🫀

Find Rescue Ready Academy at the Pueblo Farmers Market on Sat, July 25 and take the CPR Challenge at our booth: keep hands-only compressions going for a full two minutes, with live music to help you hold the beat. It's hands-on, anyone can try, and there are prizes on the line.

Why two minutes? More than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside the hospital every year, and most happen at home (American Heart Association). When it counts, the person closest is the one who can act. Two minutes at our booth is a real feel for what that takes.
