Starting August 1, 2026, Colorado will require a fi****ms safety course BEFORE purchasing or transferring certain fi****ms classified as “Specified Semiautomatic Fi****ms” (SSF).

Here’s what the law ACTUALLY says:

✅ The law ONLY affects purchases or transfers AFTER August 1, 2026.

✅ If you already legally own one of these fi****ms before August 1, 2026 — YOU ARE NOT AFFECTED.

✅ An SSF generally includes:
• Semiautomatic rifles with detachable magazines
• Semiautomatic shotguns with detachable magazines
• Gas-operated semiautomatic handguns with detachable magazines

🚫 WHAT IS EXEMPT?
• Most semiautomatic hunting shotguns
• Most .22 rimfire fi****ms
• Bolt-action, pump, lever, or slide-action fi****ms
• Fi****ms with permanently attached magazines holding 15 rounds or less
• Many recoil-operated semiautomatic handguns
• Antique fi****ms and curios/relics
• Certain listed firearm models protected under the statute

⚠️ The Department of Revenue will maintain and update the official firearm list.
