Laura M Yoga Reconnecting to nature, one breath at a time. My heartfelt purpose in becoming a yoga teacher was to draw others closer to nature through the practice.

More about my practice~

My mama would sometimes stretch into strange poses on the floor of our living room, and I suppose that was my introduction to yoga. I started to practice out of videos and books as a teenager, then moved to Taos, New Mexico, where I attended the noon flow at Shree Yoga Studio nearly every day. In 2018, after practicing daily for more than ten years, I finally felt ready to

complete my teacher training with Annie Jacob in Salida, Colorado. I deeply revere and know the foundational yogic texts, but I feel that the first and most authentic yoga teachers are our own bodies and the direct teachings of the natural world. I love getting people outside to practice, but even a studio practice in a city in the dead of winter is a chance to connect to nature through its effect on our bodies. We are expressions of nature, after all, so there can be no insights that separate us from stardust. Indoors or out, gentle or powerful, I ground each practice in the place and season in which we practice. Winter classes are usually warming but focused on yogic philosophy and introspection, while classes during warmer weather discuss more anatomy and alignment as we attempt more ambitious poses both on and off of the mat. At the peak of the heat, we take time for cooling and calming. We seek to embody the blessings of each season.

The Aspen Acres Fire may have changed our landscape, but it has not broken our spirit. This fall, the Nature & Wildlife Discovery Center is hosting a 500-person benefit dinner at the iconic Union Depot in Pueblo. This evening is a powerful opportunity for our community to stand together, showing that NWDC remains the proud steward of the park and the leader of its ongoing rebuilding efforts.

The destruction of our Mountain Campus is devastating, but the spirit of the Nature & Wildlife Discovery Center lives in the people who love it — people like you. We must come together to ensure that future generations will still have a place to learn, explore, and fall in love with the outdoors. We need you in the room on September 25th to help us write the next chapter of Pueblo Mountain Park!

We are thrilled to be starting our 9th year of Earthkeeper Nature School this fall! Our first day is Monday, August 31st at the River Campus, where we will continue to meet all school year-long under a canopy of majestic Cottonwood trees. Why Earthkeeper Nature School?

🌱 Founded in 2018, Earthkeeper Nature School (ENS) combines a nature-based early childhood curriculum with play, fresh air, open space, and child-led learning. ENS includes a Nature Preschool and Forest Kindergarten for children ages 4 - 7.

🌱 We are licensed under the Colorado Department of Human Services, and our kindergarten is recognized by the American Forest School Association.

🌱 Immersive Outdoor Learning: We believe children thrive when immersed in nature. The majority of your child's day will be spent outdoors, with indoor spaces available when weather conditions warrant. At ENS, all children engage in hands-on experiences that foster creativity, independence, and a deep connection to the natural world.

🌱 Flexible Scheduling: We want what is best for your family. Choose from 2 or 4 half-day sessions per week, with morning classes from 8:15 AM to 11:15 AM and afternoon classes from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

🌱 Experienced & Qualified Leadership: Earthkeeper Nature School is directed by Tami Montoya, who holds the Agored Cymru Level 3 “Certificate in Leading Forest School.” Tami is a well-respected voice in Colorado’s forest school community and currently serves on a statewide committee tasked with developing new childcare licensing requirements specific to forest school and nature-based early childhood programs.

~ Suggested age group: ages 13 and up. This class has a capacity of 25 participants, and all participants are required to sign a liability waiver and encouraged to register ahead of time to reserve their spot.
