CANNON BOOMS BLACK!
It was a game that started with a lightning delay and ended with figurative lightning as South put up 22 points in the final quarter to edge East 22-21 as time expired, thus returning the Cannon to Hollywood Drive.
Follow Pueblo School District 60 for a full recap and photo gallery of this exceptional 50th anniversary Cannon Game.

The District is proud to partner with the Denver Broncos in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Cannon Game.
For this special occasion, four Broncosβ cheerleaders and two alumni β RB Reuben Droughns and DT Antwon Burton β will join Miles the Mascot in welcoming Cannon Game spectators.
From 5:45-6:30 p.m., visitors have the opportunity to meet the cheerleaders and alumni and get autographs. The line will form on the sidewalk that spans Abriendo Avenue, near the statue of Dutch Clark.
On display will be the teamβs Super Bowl trophies, and giveaways are planned.
Prior to kickoff, the Broncosβ cheerleaders will perform a two-song dance routine. With Mr. Droughns and Mr. Burton joining the team captains for the mid-field coin toss, Miles the Mascot will deliver the game ball to the kicker.
The Cannon Game will be live streamed KDZA and Pueblo Community College

Not only is Ms. Thomson giving with her time in the class room, she is also a dedicated member of the Pueblo South High School Alumni Foundation! π€π€
KATHRINE THOMSON, in her 58th year of teaching History
WHAT ARE YOU READING?
βAnn Hillermanβs βShadow of the Solstice.β I love all of her books -- as well as those of her father, Tony Hillerman -- because they are mysteries set in the Southwest. They accurately portray the Navajo people and always have a new insight."
STORY OF HER JOURNEY
With a goal of becoming a lawyer, Ms. Thomson planned to teach for three years to finance law school. She quickly discovered, though, that a history classroom at South was where she was destined to be: for an unprecedented five-plus decades and counting.
βWhat keeps me here? The kids,β she said. βContrary to popular belief, kids are kids: they are the same as they were when I started. In fact, in certain respects, they are better, because Iβve had their parents and grandparents as students.β
Incredibly, many of Southβs current staff members, including Athletics Director Chris James, coach/educator Ryan Goddard, and educators Karen Olson and Kristin Graham-Bieniewicz β- once sat in Ms. Thomsonβs classroom.
"I've had many kids who have done very well in life come back to thank me," she said. "It happens all the time, and it makes me feel good."
In addition to her teaching and District responsibilities, Ms. Thomson is active in the community, through such organizations as Junior League, Steelworks Museum, and Bessemer Historical Society.
βDo I have plans to retire? Well, sooner or later,β she said. βSouth is a great community and I never wanted to be anywhere else."

We could not have asked for a better ending for these guys who grinded and got better all summer as the C**ts take home the championship of the junior varsity Runyon Summer League.
Lead by former C**ts and current college baseball players Kaleb Ortiz, Anthony Martinez and Justin Arellano, the boys beat #1 Crowley County last night to reach the championship against Central today and won 10-4 before being called for weather in the top of the 7th.
The win wraps up 2025 for us and fixes our eyes in the off season and the 2026 season. Check back the rest of this week for photos from the tournament.
Congratulations to these guys and these coaches. The future is extremely bright on Hollywood Drive.
