🎨 Meet Lynne Swanson, one of the co-founders and lead instructors of The Missing Canvas School!

After more than 20 years teaching in Pueblo District 60 classrooms, Lynne brings a deep understanding of how children learn, create and build confidence. Retirement may have closed one classroom door—but it opened another inside Blo Back Gallery.

Lynne leads our younger artists with warmth, patience and a teacher’s ability to recognize what each child needs. Her classes balance real artistic skill-building with curiosity, experimentation and plenty of room for young artists to make their own creative choices.

As a longtime Pueblo educator, Lynne has seen firsthand what art gives children: focus, confidence, problem-solving skills and the joy of making something that belongs entirely to them. She is also one of the people who inspired The Missing Canvas School’s mission—to help ensure that Pueblo children still have meaningful access to art education as opportunities disappear from local schools.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have her experience, care and steady classroom leadership at the heart of our school. Please help us welcome Ms. Lynne to The Missing Canvas School! 🧡

🖼️ Why Blo Back Gallery?

One of the things that makes The Missing Canvas Project unique is where our students will learn.

Most children's art classes take place in classrooms, community centres, or multipurpose spaces. Our students will create, experiment, and learn in a real working art gallery at Blo Back Gallery.

Surrounded by original artwork, exhibitions, and working artists, students will experience art as something alive and ongoing—not just something they do for a class.

We believe environment matters. When young artists are immersed in a creative space, they begin to see themselves as part of that creative community.

🎨 Meet Lise Cook

Hi! I'm Lise, one of the founders and instructors for The Missing Canvas Project.

I'm a mixed-media artist based in Pueblo, Colorado, with studios in both Pueblo and the San Luis Valley. Art has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I've spent years exploring painting, mixed media, experimentation, and creative expression.

The Missing Canvas Project grew from a simple belief:

EVERY child is an artist!

I wanted to create the kind of art education experience that encourages curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on discovery while teaching real artistic skills.

Our classes will be held at Blo Back Gallery, where students will have the unique opportunity to learn in a real working gallery surrounded by original artwork and a vibrant creative community.

I believe art isn't about perfection. It's about experimenting, taking risks, making discoveries, and learning what's possible.

I'm excited to meet our first students and see what they create!

Registration information and class schedules will be announced very soon, and I can't wait to share what's coming next.
