✨ Attention Working Moms and Dads of Provo! ✨

If you're looking for high-quality, loving full time preschool and childcare, I’d love to introduce you to Lighthouse Montessori Academy—a Spanish immersion Montessori program designed to nurture independence, creativity, and a love of learning.

I originally built this program for my own children, creating a warm, enriching environment filled with carefully prepared activities, hands-on learning, culture, language, and love. Now, I continue to run it because I see the difference it makes in the lives of families in our community. We stay at a home-based setting to keep it warm, comfy, with a cozy sleeping area, gardening in a rich outdoor environment and cooking experiences.

💡 Did you know?
- Many families of our community work for BYU.

- If you work 15+ hours per week, the Department of Workforce Services may help cover childcare costs. Also, the Utah Fits All scholarship can help with tuition for children age 5+ by September 1!

If you’d like to learn more or schedule a visit, feel free to message me! I’d love to help your child thrive in a nurturing, engaging environment. 💕

At Lighthouse Montessori Academy, children engage in hands-on learning that builds both creativity and fine motor skills. Using Montessori materials like metal insets, students practice concentration, pencil control, and artistic expression, laying the foundation for writing and drawing. Our nurturing environment fosters independence and joy in learning, one beautiful step at a time.

The Montessori Difference at Lighthouse Montessori Academy

At Lighthouse Montessori Academy, we believe in nurturing each child’s unique potential through hands-on learning and independent exploration. Our Montessori approach encourages children to follow their natural curiosity, allowing them to develop critical thinking skills, confidence, and independence at their own pace.

In a carefully prepared environment, children engage in activities that promote practical life skills, language development, and sensory exploration. With individualized learning plans and small class sizes, each child receives the attention and guidance they need to thrive.

Come see how the Montessori method empowers children to become active learners who love to discover the world around them! 🌱🔍

🌟 The Benefits of Language Immersion for All Children 🌟

At Lighthouse Montessori Academy, we understand that the idea of a Spanish immersion program can seem intimidating. However, research shows that language immersion can offer significant benefits for children, including those with special needs. Here’s why:

1. Cognitive Benefits:
🔍 Enhanced Cognitive Flexibility: Immersion in a second language helps improve cognitive flexibility, allowing children to switch between tasks and think more creatively. (Bialystok, E., & Craik, F. I. M., 2010. "Bilingualism as a Cognitive Reserve." Neuropsychology).

2. Language Development:
🗣️ Improved Language Skills: Exposure to multiple languages deepens understanding of language structures and expands vocabulary in both languages. (Hakuta, K., & Pease-Alvarez, L., 1994. "Bilingualism and Cognitive Development: Theoretical and Empirical Perspectives." Bilingualism: Language and Cognition).

3. Social and Emotional Growth:
🌍 Increased Cultural Sensitivity: Learning a new language often comes with exposure to different cultures, fostering empathy and cultural awareness. (Genesee, F., 2004. "The Cognitive Benefits of Bilingualism." Current Directions in Psychological Science).

4. Special Needs Considerations:
💪 Enhanced Learning Strategies: Bilingualism can encourage the development of different learning strategies and cognitive skills, benefiting children with special needs. (Baker, C., 2011. "Foundations of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism." Multilingual Matters).

Our immersion program is designed with thoughtful support and individualized attention to help all children thrive. With the right strategies and encouragement, bilingual education can be a powerful tool for growth and development.

Sometimes parents wonder if leaving their child in the early childhood Montessori environment an extra year is a good idea, when they have the option to advance. If wondering, my friend, let me tell you why allowing them to remain in the Montessori environment as one of the oldest children, fulfilling a needed leadership role, advances the child’s emotional temperament more in life, does more permanent good, and is a stronger and better indicator of success in adulthood than an advancement in grade placement.

Benefits of Leadership Roles in Montessori Classrooms
1. Confidence and Self-Esteem:
* Being the oldest in the class and taking on leadership roles can help shy children develop confidence and a stronger sense of self, creating a permanent change in their self-perception.
* They can act as role models for younger students, which can reinforce their own skills and knowledge.
* Leadership roles can provide children with the opportunity to experience mastery and competence, which are crucial for building self-esteem.
2. Social and Emotional Development:
* Staying in a familiar environment where they feel competent can help shy children develop better social skills and emotional resilience. The responsibility of helping others can make them feel valued and integral to the classroom community.
* Research indicates that social competence and emotional maturity are better predictors of academic and life success than cognitive skills alone (ScienceDaily) (Cambridge) .
3. Identity Formation:
* A leadership role can help in identity formation by giving children a sense of purpose and belonging. They can develop a strong identity as a helper and leader, which can positively influence their behavior and attitudes.
* Montessori classrooms encourage peer teaching and collaborative learning, which can help children see themselves as capable and respected members of their community.
4. Tailored Learning Pace:
* Montessori education emphasizes individualized learning paces. Allowing a child to stay another year in the primary environment ensures they are emotionally and socially ready for the more structured demands of elementary school.
* Studies suggest that children who are retained to mature emotionally and socially tend to perform better in the long run compared to those who are advanced prematurely (SpringerLink) . The best indicator of maturity is not age by Sep 1, but achieving adequate developmental milestones such as impulse control, mental flexibility and working memory.
Practical Implementation
* Observation and Assessment: Professionals in child development, such as Montessori guides, therapists and other early childhood educators Continually assess the child’s development and readiness for transition. They observational records to gauge their progress in confidence, social skills, and academic abilities.
* Parental Involvement: Parental engagement is crucial. Parents should seek to discuss the benefits and observations of the child’s development in the current environment and how the leadership role could further benefit their growth. A nuanced understanding of progress in terms of the child’s development is more helpful than a definition of progress based only on grade assignment.
* Teacher Support: Ensure that teachers provide the necessary support and guidance for the child in their leadership role, helping them navigate any challenges they might face.
In summary, allowing a child to remain in a leadership role in the Montessori classroom can significantly benefit their social, emotional, and academic development, setting them up for success in life. This may be particularly true for those with spring and summer birthdays who might need additional time to mature.
