One of my sweet preschoolers taught me a lesson I'll never forget. Another friend was having a really hard day, and this little girl stood next to him and said, "Smell the flowers. Blow out the candle."
I'll forever remember this quote! So perfect for teaching strategies to manage anxiety for Littles and adults! I wish I'd heard this decades ago!
Not only does it ground you and really encourage mindfulness, it also brings back memories.
Smell the flowers. What kind? When have I smelled them? Where was I?
Blow out the candle. What kind? Birthday, scented, jack o lantern? Where was I? How many were there?
I've thought about this technique and used it multiple times daily, ever since a preschooler taught me the best anxiety tool I've ever found!
