The Center currently offers both lower and upper-level classes in more than 40 less-commonly taught and critical languages, here at BYU.
The official page for BYU's Center for Language Studies. Nearly 70 percent of BYU students speak a second language, with 111 languages spoken on campus. The Center for Language Studies promotes language education by offering courses in less-commonly taught languages at various levels. Our Department teaches courses in over 40 languages, including American Sign Language.

We are excited to announce the newest language offering at BYU-Provo is Kiribati (pronounced keer-uh-bus)!
Latter-day Saint Missionaries Save the Lives of 4 People in Kiribati Two missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently saved the lives of four men whose car crashed into a lake in the Pacific island nation of Kiribati.

Artist and TED Fellow Christine Sun Kim was born deaf, and she was taught to believe that sound wasn't a part of her life, that it was a hearing person's thing. Through her art, she discovered similarities between American Sign Language and music, and she realized that sound doesn't have to be known solely through the ears -- it can be felt, seen and experienced as an idea.
