The BYU English Department houses approximately 1,000 students who participate in a variety of degrees, including the English and English Teaching majors, the English Minor, the Writing and Rhetoric Minor, and master’s degrees in both English and Creative Writing. A huge welcome for Bob Hicok, this Friday's English Reading Series guest. Meet him at the signing beforehand in 4186 JFSB or attend the reading at noon in the library auditorium. Bob Hicok is the author of numerous poetry collections, including The Legend of Light (Felix Pollak Prize), Animal Soul (National Book Critics Circle Award finalist), This Clumsy Living (Rebekah Johnson Bobbitt National Prize), Words for Empty, Words for Full, Elegy Owed, and S*x & Love. His work has appeared frequently in Best American Poetry, and he has received Pushcart Prizes and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the NEA. His poetry is known for its accessible, meditative style and humane engagement with contemporary life. His upcoming book, Breathe, will be published in 2026. He teaches creative writing at Purdue University.

We're excited to hear from Sue William Silverman at Friday's English Reading Series event! Join us at 11:00 in 4186 JFSB for her signing and then at noon in the library auditorium for the reading. Sue William Silverman is an award-winning author of nine works of nonfiction and poetry. Her latest, a collection of flash essays, is Selected Misdemeanors: Essays at the Mercy of the Reader. Other works include How to Survive Death and Other Inconveniences (which won the gold star in Foreword Reviews INDIE Book of the Year Award and the Clara Johnson Award for Women’s Literature); The Pat Boone Fan Club: My Life as a White Anglo-Saxon Jew; and a craft book Acetylene Torch Songs: Writing True Stories to Ignite the Soul. She’s co-chair of the MFA in Writing program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
