“Before the MBA, I didn’t have a formal education in business and finance, but the program gave me the confidence to be at a higher level than I thought before.”
Now two years into her post-graduate career, Christina Muhlestein Bates embraces the day-to-day of her job alongside raising a little girl with her husband, and staying connected to the friends she made in the BYU Marriott MBA Program.
Even with a pattern of following her passions, Bates credits the MBA program for helping her become her best self.
“Coming into the MBA program, I had crazy imposter syndrome, but I realized that all of us students came into the MBA program because something wasn’t going as we wanted. And it’s really special to be part of a group of people who are all in it together."

▶ Which academic or extracurricular achievement are you most proud of during business school?
"I served as co-president of the MBA Case Competition. We invited MBA students from across the country to share ideas on how we can strengthen the workplace through diversity and expressions of faith. We ended up hosting 16 MBA programs from across the country who represented diverse faiths.
I am most proud of this event because research shows that work satisfaction, happiness, and drive are affected by your ability to bring your whole self to work, including spirituality. From this event, I was able to see people from all walks of life find common ground and become friends. There’s a fundamental need for people to be understood. I think when you understand each other, you’re able to build a bond. And when you build a bond, you’re able to work better together."

Happy New Year! Wishing you all the success with your goals and dreams in 2024.
"Many MBA programs can teach me the knowledge and skills I needed to succeed, but Brigham Young University is about more than knowledge and skills.
I knew that BYU would stimulate a greater commitment to excellence and a more focused pursuit of my human potential. BYU is interested in me as whole person, not just my professional ability.
I chose the BYU Marriott School of Business because I wanted to be a better person, and in the process, I have been able to learn a thing or two about business."

A team of BYU MBA students recently competed in the 28th Annual International Case Competition (ICC) hosted by Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business.
The BYU team, made up of Gretel Tam, Tyler Hill, Benjamin Williams, Dyllan Beccari, won second place against teams of MBA students from Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, UNC, UCLA and others.
