Learn about careers in international development: Ask Me Anything event with Richard Nelson 1/11 at 2pm in the Kennedy Center (238 HRCB).

Richard Nelson currently serves as USAID’s Mission Director to Uganda, where he oversees projects focused on strengthening Uganda’s health system and agricultural markets, feeding refugees, improving education, and more. Prior to this assignment, he served as Deputy Coordinator for the U.S. government’s Power Africa initiative. He also served as a Foreign Service Legal Officer at USAID offices in Pretoria, Bangkok, Baghdad, and Washington. Before USAID, he worked for Dell Inc. as an Emerging Markets Strategist, working closely with foreign governments. Richard is a graduate of Harvard Law School (J.D.) and Brigham Young University.

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship support recent college and graduate school alumni with six to nine month fellowships in Washington, DC focusing on arms control, peace, and international security issues. Founded in 1987 to develop and train the next generation of leaders on a range of peace and security issues, the program has awarded 193 fellowships to date. Candidates must have an excellent academic record and a strong interest in issues of peace and security. Open to all U.S. citizens, and non-U.S. citizens living in the U.S. eligible for employment. Benefits: $3,300 monthly salary, basic health insurance compensation, alumni and board mentoring, travel to DC to begin the fellowship, and a small stipend for professional development. Fall 2024 Deadline: January 8, 2024

AMA this Wednesday with Dr. Kerry Kartchner on National Security Careers. He served in the U.S. Department of State and the
Defense Department, where he was primarily responsible for nuclear weapons policy and
nonproliferation issues, including as the State Department’s senior public
