🎶 What does it mean to become a musician?

At The Artful Musician, we want students to understand music—to hear it, feel it, read it, create it, and express it.

Our Becoming a Musician program gives school-age students a sequential path for developing lasting musicianship:

🎵 The Emerging Musician — Level 1
🎵 The Rising Musician — Level 2
🎵 Becoming a Musician — Level 3
🎵 The Inspired Musician — Level 4

Through joyful singing, singing games, movement, listening, rhythm, music literacy, creativity, and meaningful musical experiences, students develop a musical foundation they can carry with them throughout a lifetime of music-making.

And we want those dots and lines dancing across the page to actually mean something to the musician reading them. ❤️

🎵 You don't have to wait until your child is “old enough” for music lessons.

Some of my favorite moments as a music teacher happen when young children are simply experiencing music—singing, moving, listening, playing musical games, hearing stories, and making music together with the adults who love them.

That is the heart of our family music offerings at The Artful Musician. ❤️

We have three ways for young musicians and their families to join us this fall:

🎵 Family Music — ages 1–6 + adult
📖 Sing Me a Story — ages 1–8 + adult
🎶 Music Adventures — ages 4–6 + adult

Music begins in families, grows through joyful musical experiences, and continues throughout life.

🎶 What if music class could be more than just another activity?

For homeschool families, every class you add to the week matters. You want it to be worth the time, the drive, and the space it takes in your child's schedule.

At The Artful Musician, our goal isn't simply to teach children some songs. We help children become skilled and joyful musicians.

Through singing, movement, musical games, folk songs, solfa, music literacy, and making music together, students learn to hear, understand, and express music.

Music Classes for a Variety of Ages

🎵 Family Music — young children with a caregiver
🎵 Music Adventures — ages 4–6
🎵 Becoming Musicians (levels 1-4) — developing musicianship for elementary-aged students
🎵 Inspired Musician — advanced musicianship
🎵 Children & Youth Choir — ages 8+

We also have Youth Extension for our older singers and are exploring a new Adult Evening Choir beginning in October!

🎶 Homeschool moms, I know many of you are planning your fall schedules right now...

I wanted to make let you know that The Artful Musician's 2026–27 registration is still open but filling quickly!

I especially love working with homeschool families because music can become such a wonderful part of the homeschool experience—not just another subject to check off the list.

In my classes, children learn through singing, movement, games, beautiful music, discovery, creativity, and making music together. We build real musicianship, but we don't sacrifice the joy that makes children want to keep learning.

We have opportunities for children from early childhood through the teen years, as well as family music and choir experiences.

And I've just made the schedule much easier to browse—all the classes, ages, meeting times, lengths, and tuition are together in one place.

About a month ago, our Kodály Certification program— Kodály Certification - InterMuse Academy at BYU—reached out to BYU Magazine to see if they might be interested in featuring our program and the work we do in music teacher training.
To my surprise, they reached out to interview me personally. It was definitely outside my comfort zone (I would have much preferred the spotlight to be on InterMuse itself!), but I had a wonderful time talking with them and sharing the heart behind what we do.
I’m grateful they were able to highlight not only some of my own experiences, but more importantly, the mission of InterMuse—helping music educators grow as musicians and teachers so they can bless the lives of countless students.
This program has been shaped by so many incredible people over the past 30 years, and I’m grateful to be just one small part of that story.

I absolutely love working with the BYU InterMuse Youth Choir Camp each summer. I am especially excited about this summer as it will be the 30 Year anniversary of InterMuse and we are planing some wonderful celebrations. I can't wait to work with these awesome an inspiring children and adults once again. It is going to be a wonderful time!
