Visual Arts Fellow Elizabeth Flood grew up in Virginia. Her paintings and drawings survey complex layers of extraction, violence, and expression within the American landscape. Through her experiential practice of working outdoors in the elements, she forecasts future impact and keeps watch over a country and land in crisis.

She earned her MFA in Painting from Boston University (2019); her BA from the University of Virginia (2014), where she studied History, Religion, and Art; and attended the Mount Gretna School of Art (2014-15). In 2019, Flood was a participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and was an artist-in-residence at the Studios at MASS MoCA.

Flood is completing her second-year residency at the Fine Arts Work Center (2021-22, 2022-23). Recent exhibitions include a 2022 solo show, Battlegrounds, at Real Art Ways in Hartford Connecticut, and in a group exhibition at Storage Gallery in New York. Flood is the recipient of several grants and awards including the Real Art Award, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Graduate Fellowship, and the John Walker Alumni Award at Boston University. From 2019-2021 she taught as a visiting lecturer in painting and drawing at Colgate University.

Gilliland held the Stanley Kunitz Fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center and is the author of The Ruined Walled Castle Garden. MacFadyen is the author of five poetry collections, including Waiting to Be Born.

The founders of the Work Center envisioned a place in Provincetown where artists and writers could live and work together in the early stages of their creative development.

They believed that the freedom to pursue creative work within a community of peers is the best catalyst for artistic growth.

In 1968, Salvatore del Deo (), along with a group of artists, writers, and patrons founded the Fine Arts Work Center. Today, we’d like to wish a happy 94th birthday to Salvatore for nurturing the careers of countless artists and for being an incredible inspiration to all in the Provincetown community through his art and his actions.

Every writer has their strengths, but we often over-rely on what we do well.

In this workshop Traci Brimhall will take writers through poems that model a balance of tension between clarity and wilderness, narrative and music, emotion and intellect.

A.J. Verdelle is the author of the novels ‘The Good Negress’ and ‘The Peter Cotton Tales’, as well as the brand new memoir ‘Miss Chloe: A Memoir of a Literary Friendship with Toni Morrison.’
