SEWER CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FOR WEEK ENDING 10/16/26

For the week starting Monday October 12th the RBO crew installed 100 feet of pipe and three stubs on Winslow Street. Crews are off Jerome Smith Road and will continue on Winslow Street now for the duration.

On Monday October 19th and Tuesday October 20th, the RBO crew will be working on Winslow Street right at the VMCC entrance. You will only be able to enter the parking lot from the Monument side of Winslow Street. There will be a police detail there to assist with traffic. For the rest of the week and continuing through the rest of October the RBO crew will be on Winslow Street installing stubs. This work will start at the VMCC end of Winslow Street and work towards Jerome Smith Road. Jerome Smith Road is open, but Winslow Street will still be closed during the day. Work will start at 7am and end at 4pm daily and will involve full road closures. You must plan ahead for parking as well as entering or exiting your property during working hours. For those of you who need to get to the school or the community center, please enter Winslow Street from Bradford Street. You will need to exit through the monument parking lot.

For the look ahead, once the RBO crew is done on Winslow Street they will move to Jerome Smith Road. That work will be between Winslow Street and Alden Street. We will have more updates on that in the following weeks.

For the week starting Monday October 5th the RBO crew installed 500 feet of pipe and no stubs on Winslow Street. Crews are off Jerome Smith Road and will continue on Winslow Street now for the duration.

Starting Tuesday October 13th (they will not be working the holiday) and continuing through the end of October the RBO crew will be working on Winslow Street. Jerome Smith Road is now open, but Winslow Street will still be closed during the day. Work will start at 7am and end at 4pm daily and will involve full road closures. You must plan ahead for parking as well as entering or exiting your property during working hours. For those of you who need to get to the school or the community center, please enter Winslow Street from Bradford Street. You will need to exit through the monument parking lot.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY SCHEDULE

On Monday October 12th the Department of Public Works will be closed in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day. For those of you who have Monday trash and recycling pickup, your pickup will be on Tuesday October 13th. Keep in mind the Sanitation crew will be doing a double route this day so your pickup may be later than usual. Please be patient. The Transfer Station will be open on Monday October 12th but only from 7am to 10:30am so please plan accordingly.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DAY!

The last of the three HHW days will be held this Saturday, October 3, 2026. This third event will be held at the Provincetown transfer station at 90 Race Point Road. The event starts at 9 AM and ends at noon. Proof of Provincetown residency will be required. Thank you.

🌧️ Storm Update: Nor'easter Will Continue to Affect Provincetown Today & Tomorrow 🌊

Strong winds, heavy rain, flooding, & power outages remain concerns in Provincetown.

💨 Wind: Gusts of 45–55 mph may continue today before easing Sunday. Downed limbs and power outages are still possible.

🌊 Flooding: Heavier rain bands are expected later today. The high tides this afternoon, tonight and Sunday afternoon are of particular concern. Water may not fully drain between tides.

🚗 Safety: Avoid unnecessary travel and never drive through flooded roads. Stay away from beaches, breakwaters and downed wires. Call 911 for a downed wire.

🔌 Outages: Report power outages to Eversource at 1-800-592-2000. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed if you lose power.

🏠 Shelter: No local or regional shelter is scheduled to open at this time. The Town and County will reassess if conditions change.

🌧️ Nor’easter Update: Prepare for High Winds, Possible Power Outages & Flooding 🌊

A Nor’easter will bring heavy rain and strong winds today through the weekend. The most hazardous conditions are expected Friday night through Saturday.

💨 Wind gusts of 45–60 mph could bring down limbs and cause power outages. Eversource is preparing for the possibility of outages lasting more than a day.

🌊 3–5 inches of rain and high tides could cause flooding, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas of the West End. Move vehicles and valuables from flood-prone areas, secure loose outdoor items, and charge your devices now. Never drive through floodwater.

🦪 The Commonwealth has issued a precautionary storm closure, and all recreational shellfishing in Provincetown is closed beginning a half-hour before sunrise on Saturday, September 26, 2026, until further notice. The East End is the only area in town open to recreational shellfishing at this time. All other areas are already closed, so this closure affects the East End. Digging, harvesting, or possessing shellfish from any Massachusetts waters is prohibited during the closure. This is a rainfal closure due to bacteria harmful to humans is stormwater. The Shellfish Department will announce when the area reopens.

ℹ️ No local or regional shelter is scheduled to open at this time. The Town and County are monitoring the storm and are prepared to address needs if conditions change.

SANDBAG AVAILABILITY

Due to the anticipated Nor’easter expected this coming weekend, the Department of Public Works Highway Garage (24 Race Point Rd) will be open to the public on both Wednesday and Thursday from 8am to 2pm so you can fill sandbags for your property. You can fill up to ten sandbags per property. If you are physically unable, please check in with staff for pre-made bags and assistance.

If your property is prone to street flooding during heavy rain, please plan ahead and get your sandbags now. Please check in at the desk at the Highway Garage when you get there.
