We discussed our strengths today with Leadership Rhode Island! We talked about how to utilize our strengths individually and as a team with Mary Ellen Lynch, especially as College Advisers. Thank you for the wonderful workshop!

The College Advisers have been exploring and learning about the different college options available to their students this week and last. Today, our Advisers visited Fitchburg State University for professional development, an info session, and a campus tour with College Advising Corps - Boston University.
Rain or shine, our College Advisers are working diligently to help underserved schools in Rhode Island!

Last week, our new College Advisers sat down with Joshua Rodriguez from The Swearer Center at Brown University to discuss one of the Swearer Center's key workshops "Providence: Many Stories." They talked about the data behind Providence's many neighborhoods and how that singular story is harmful and dangerous in erasing the personal stories of the communities.
We are making our way through hard skill and soft skill training for the entire month of August. The Advisers learn about conflict resolution, financial aid, the Common Application, and much more on Brown University's campus. This sets the base for a successful year in College Advising Corps and AmeriCorps.

The Brown University undergraduates have officially started as Matriculation Coaches and are in their second week of service! They survived a week of training, including a college visit, team building at Rocky Point, and many workshops.
They're thrilled to be working at The Swearer Center at Brown University with recent high school graduates to help them matriculate in the fall.

This year we say goodbye to a number of Advisers that served their schools for 2 years. This includes Bethania Ramos, the adviser at Woonsocket High School, who graduated from Woonsocket in 2013. She celebrated her final yesterday with her Juniors from last year.
After heartfelt speeches, raffle drawings with prizes for College and Dorm rooms, and sweet treats, Bethania moved the students to the auditorium. The main surprise for the Juniors and Seniors was her rapping performance to Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow." We captured the moment on video, but that's for our entertainment.
Congratulations to Bethania on two successful service years and Decision Days, and to the students at Woonsocket High School in the past, present, and future!

In fashion, Bethania Ramos, the College Adviser at Woonsocket High School, decorated a bulletin board with her students' post-graduation plans. Her theme for the bulletin board and Decision Day is Cardi B's song "I Like It Like That." This is to support all plans after high school, including decisions to join the Military, the workforce, attend Trade School, Beauty School, 2-Year Colleges, and 4-Year Colleges.
College Advising Corps at Brown University and Woonsocket High School will be celebrating their Decision Day on May 22nd with this inclusive theme in mind. Check back then to see moments from the event!

Each table had an activity related to graduation and the students' future plans, including Summer Advising sign-up, trivia about College Access, and a Photobooth for students to take pictures commemorating their decisions for post-graduation.
The students were energetic, enthusiastic, and engaged.

Last week, the students of Rhode Island had spring break so the advisers took some time to update their data and plan for the next school year.
..but even advisers need a break sometimes. We took the afternoon on Friday to play a Song Association game for a competitive bonding experience. We discovered that we have eclectic tastes in music.
