Zooming Out: Sustainability, Accessibility, Social Impact
Saturday, March 12, 9:00am–7:00pm
Hybrid Event: Online and at the RISD Chace Center,
RISD Museum, 20 N Main St, Providence, RI 02903
When we are looking at things with a laser focus, we tend to miss things on the periphery. Zooming out encourages designers and artists to think about who and what is overlooked. The 2022 RISD IDSA Makeathon calls designers to rethink what biases we bring, considering our respective environments and positions of privilege. Participants will push to create experiences, new systems, solutions, products, or installations for a future that is more inclusive and responsible.
During this one-day event, students form groups, ideate, research, design, and proto type a solution for a pre-planned theme. Throughout the day, mentors from various professional design fields guide students and their design processes. Final presentations from each team are critiqued by a judging panel, who choose the winning teams to receive awards.
