Wildcats, over the weekend, CS&S learned that seven students from another college in the Providence area were treated with Narcan due to overdosing on drugs reportedly laced with Fentanyl. The students are fortunate that first responders were able to quickly treat them with Narcan! CS&S would like to take this opportunity to remind students to make good choices and to look out for each other.
If you or any students that you know consume illegal narcotics, please seek support or encourage them to seek help and support from university or local resources.
In addition, local authorities continue to see an increase in fentanyl in the regionâs illicit drug supply. While we encourage our community not to use illegal and illicit drugs, our priority is your safety and well-being.
Know the Signs of an Overdose
Slow, shallow, or stopped breathing
Gurgling or unusual noises
Very pale skin
Blue or gray lips and fingernails
If you suspect an overdose, call 911 immediately. Rhode Islandâs Good Samaritan Law and JWUâs Call for Help policy protects people who call for help during an overdose event.
Steps for Safety & Harm Reduction
Carry Naloxone (Narcan).
Naloxone can reverse an opioid overdose and is available without a prescription at pharmacies across Rhode Island and offered for free by several community organizations.
Avoid using alone.
Having someone nearby increases the chance that help can be provided quickly. The Never Use Alone hotline: 1-800-484-3731, provides someone who will stay on the line and contact responders if needed.
Use Fentanyl Test Strips (FTS).
FTS are legal in Rhode Island and can detect certain types of fentanyl. While no drug use is completely safe, testing your supply can help those who choose to use make informed choices, including using a smaller âtestâ dose.
Support Is Available
If you or someone you know is struggling, treatment, recovery, and support services are available both on campus and in the local community. Reaching out is a sign of strength, and weâre here to help you stay safe.

Wildcats, make good mutual choices when engaging in sexual activities. Remember that consent must be clear, unambiguous and a voluntary agreement between participants to engage in specific sexual activity. Consent is active, not passive, and is given by a clear and sober "YES."
