Our first Artist Talk of the Fall semester is just a few weeks away! Suchitra Mattai will join us on Wednesday, October 21. Link in bio to register.
“Suchitra Mattai is a multi-disciplinary artist of Indo-Caribbean descent whose practice often draws upon found and inherited materials to explore diasporic histories, cultural memory, and belonging. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, DC), the ICA San Francisco (San Francisco, CA), the Tampa Museum of Art (Tampa, FL) and Socrates Sculpture Park (New York, NY), as well as group exhibitions at the Sao Paolo Biennial, the MCA Chicago, the ICA Boston, Crystal Bridges Museum of Art, the Sharjah Biennial 14, and the MCA San Diego. Her works are represented in public and private collections including those of LACMA, the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Seattle Museum of Art, the New York History Museum, Crystal Bridges Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, the MCA San Diego, and the Tampa Museum of Art. Suchitra received an MFA in painting and drawing and an MA in South Asian Art from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and is a recent recipient of a Joan Mitchell Fellowship (2025), an Anonymous Was a Woman Award (2023), and an Academy Award nomination (2025) for producing the short film “”Anuja.”””

Students in Digital Photography visited the Bell Gallery’s Print Study Room to examine a range of photographic prints and explore the diverse processes and techniques used to produce photographic images.
