Apply for the C-IDEA Design Award 2021
From 1st September 2021 to 28 February 2022
Call For entries | Find More information on our website: https://cidea-union.com/2021-call-for-entries/

The C-IDEA Design Award is the Worlds’ annual juried design competition. It aims to recognize and promote visionary talents in a wide array of categories ranging from communication design, industrial design, architecture, interior design, fashion design, and new media.
A yearbook and exhibition of the nominated designs are also presented as part of the event.
The jury consists of twenty countries with over thirty representatives from high-profile designers and educators. The C-IDEA Design Award aims to recognize outstanding design with social value, excavate more farsighted, and responsible excellent design forces to help the development of the design industry!
The C-IDEA Design Award hopes to create more opportunities for excellent designers to communicate and cooperate with exhibitions, awards ceremonies, and international events. Each year’s results are announced during a ceremony that is hosted in a different country. So far, the CIDEA Design Awards ceremonies (and accompanying events) have been hosted in Russia, Poland, South Korea, Czech Republic, Taiwan China, and so on.
The Open Call “Eurotopia” is an integral component of our upcoming exhibition “Europe: Ancient Future”, curated by Sandro Droschl set to open the newly formed HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark in April 2021.

“Europe: Ancient Future” presents an extensive selection of international contemporary positions that focus on the history of ideas, myths, values, and ruptures of a – currently rather reserved – united Europe, which is being examined beyond its economic and political developments as a hotly debated cultural-historical project with utopian potential.

We kindly ask you to submit works that allow us to see a variety of European Futures: What is your Europe? Is it a utopia or reality? Where do you see yourself represented?

All contributions will be accessible online via the platform nextmuseum.io and via the HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark website and in the foyer of the institution. Selected pieces will be highlighted through an in-house event and, if possible, discussed with protagonists who will be invited to Graz.

The submissions will be reviewed editorially and only then put online. The editorial team reserves the right to disregard unsuitable contributions without giving reasons.

Open Call: 2.2.-2.4.2021

Four RISD Graphic Design students—Corinne Ang 21 GD, Cameron Galley 21 GD, Everett Epstein MFA 21 GD and Kit Son Lee MFA 21 GD— are included on this year’s GD USA Magazine ones to watch list
Hi everyone! The company I work with is looking to hire someone who can design industrial products such as pill cases. Please message me if interested!
Hi. I’m looking for a graphic designer to change a brand identity of a company. Graphics. Social Media. (Images for website) etc. The vision is clean, modern, cool. I’ll be happy to send over more details.

Please send me your portfolio and rates.

Hey! I’m Liam, a rising junior at Brown studying computer science. After going through a lot of trouble with storing my stuff this summer, I thought it’d be cool to have a platform that connects students who need storage to those that have space in their apartments/houses. Additionally, we can also connect students that need moving help to those with cars that are willing to help.

I am building this web app using React with 2 other friends (all brown CS students). The tentative name is Boxity. We want to bring onboard a graphics designer and figure out a prototyping workflow involving something like Figma. If this seems interesting, please text me - my number is 4015436667.
Looking for a Photoshop graphic design wiz to assemble a mockup a poster in the spirit of Vasilis Marmatakis. Hit me for this quick gig:)
What do you all think of this art?
In facing the challenges that COVID-19 poses to studio education, the RISD Graphic Design department has drawn from its strength as a community of creative communicators to build dynamic remote learning environments and make work that is both publicly engaged and personally meaningful.

Assistant Professor Ramon Tejada and fellow assistant professors Kelsey Elder and Minkyoung Kim MFA 15 GD talk about transitioning from on-campus to remote learning and how designers are reevaluating the role of creative practice in a world that is now even more unpredictable than ever.
Merging theory with technique, Assistant Professor RISD Graphic Design Anastasiia Raina is reimagining the future of graphic design.

Since discovering the medium of graphic design soon after arriving in the US in 2006, Ukranian-born artist Anastasiia Raina has ambitiously reimagined design practice through the lens of posthumanism—a body of thought that addresses (among many other things) the blurring of boundaries between human beings and advanced technologies.
Design Nation Conference

Design Nation is an all-expenses-paid exploration of the versatility of a career in design, how design is applied differently across industries; and what it looks like to be a design leader facing the business and social challenges of our world.

The conference will take place in April 4-5th in New York city. Upcoming speakers this year include Sandra Campos (CEO of DVF), Deb Boyda (CEO of Isobar US), Eric Muhlheim (CFO of Buzzfeed), etc.

DN is brought to you by BusinessToday from Princeton University. We are NOT just looking for designers. Entrepreneurs, artists, writers, makers –– anyone with a love of design are all welcome!

Application deadline: February 1st

double major shoutout! ✴️ Varun (GD + ID ‘22) holds up a piece he feels intersects both his disciplines. Varun loves exploring new mediums in digital apparel programs, where he designed garments for the Artemis space missions “that focused on introducing South Asian fashion styles into a traditionally western fashion area”

(+thanks for keeping the pig tail trend going)

by .sark ,

03/13/2022

double major shoutout! ☮️ Valeria (GD + SC ‘24) holds up a piece she feels intersects both her disciplines. Valeria is always looking for new ways to bring her digital work to fill a 3D space and finds “using digital tools such as videos, images, typography and audio to create immersive experiences in said spaces”

by .sark ,

03/12/2022

double major shoutout! 🌀 Annie (GD + IL ‘23) holds up a piece she feels intersects both her disciplines. Annie enjoys exploring the boundaries between illustration and graphic design and that “it’s often pretty blurred as they flow into each other’s domain, especially with typography for what I’m creating”

[Code Lab] Visiting Artist Workshop Series

Aarati Akkapeddi
Wednesday, March 16 5:30 pm
Zoomcast from DC 501

In this workshop, we will explore the advantages and limitations of computational (and human) classification of images through participatory and technical exercises, related to her recent work —𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱𝘴. By walking through some ways to manipulate images using facial recognition and python, we will discuss how formulating our own taxonomies for personal archives can cultivate new meaning and at the same time how classifications are always approximations and forgetting this can hold us back from noticing the wonderful ways in which archival materials complicate and resist the boxes we place them in.

Aarati Akkapeddi is a coder, interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Lenapehoking (Brooklyn, NY). They work for The Experimental Humanities Collaborative Network, where they create digital spaces and tools. In their creative practice, they combine archival material, code, machine learning and analog techniques (photography & printmaking) to create artwork about intergenerational/collective memory. Their creative work has been supported by institutions such as Ada X, The Interactive Telecommunications program at NYU, ETOPIA Center for Art & Technology, and LES Printshop. They currently teach creative coding in the Design & Technology department at Parsons.

Tonight was a real moment for us to be proud: the RISD GD Triennial is now open through November 14, featuring 160+ submissions from current students and recent alumni. Enormous thanks to the team for their patience and support, to the huge student team that self organized and made this happen, to everyone who submitted work.

From the exhibition statement:

🔥
RISD GD Triennial 2021
A passage, a window, an entrance, an exit, a threshold, a transition: it is through these portals that the RISD community experienced the past three years. We moved between physical and virtual spaces, projected ours and others’ voices throughout nationwide social and racial unrest, and oscillated between reflections on the past and present, and speculations about new futures. We entered social spaces, classrooms, and work environments through the lenses of TikToks, tweets, and tiny video grids. We sustained epistemological reckonings and “new normals” as the separations between home/work, public/private blurred together. The 2021 GD Triennial is an exhibit of works produced within RISD’s Graphic Design Department over the last three years, as they sit at the intersections of disciplines, visions, and practices. Portals enable both transportation and transformation—as visual communicators, we open portals into new ways of disrupting and educating. And as we travel through and across portals—from a volatile past towards a hazy, but hopeful, future—we must embrace the uncertain, constantly iterative process of that transition. Against a background of profound social, technological, and ecological change, our recent efforts have created new portals and our continued vigor and vigilance will ensure they remain open. This exhibition is a testament to the ever-evolving state of design and its endless potential: a pathway to the many worlds we’ve been to before and a portal to the infinite places we will eventually go.
