Our last Alumni spotlight for the year is Kayla Cochran, who graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. She says that some of her favorite memories from her time at JWU were all of the great people she met, (most of whom she is still in touch with today) and maintaining friendships and professional connections from her undergrad. She also says that being a part of the Caribbean Student Association was a highlight of her time here!
“As for courses, I absolutely loved the ones that pushed me to think outside the box and get creative whether it was marketing, leadership, or team dynamics. The professors at JWU were incredible, especially Professors Gretchen Guertin, Kristen Regine, and Elizabeth Carey. They genuinely cared about their students, and through their classes and projects, I felt truly equipped for the workforce. Their real-world experiences and support made all the difference!”
Her advice to undergraduates is to trust the process. “There were times when I felt like I was falling behind compared to my peers, but I had to remind myself: you’re never behind when you’re putting in the work. Growth happens outside your comfort zone, so trust knowing that every step forward is part of your unique journey.” Kayla also says to take advantage of Linkedln.
Kayla is a Talent Acquisition Specialist at Trustpilot and loves it! An average day for her, “Is a mix of connecting with amazing candidates, collaborating with hiring managers to build out strategies, and diving into recruitment projects.” She’s always on the move! Her favorite part of work is the opportunity to connect with talented people and help them find their next big opportunity. She enjoys the team collaboration and says, “there’s nothing better than working with passionate people who are just as committed!” She is also very proud of her DEI work, is passionate about inclusive hiring, and creating a diverse and supportive work environment.
Her big takeaway from her time at JWU is how important it is to embrace every opportunity that comes your way. Being a part of CSA, getting involved in projects and networking in JWU, all helped shape her journey. “Never stop learning and enjoy the journey!”
Thank you Kayla for being our alumni spotlight this week!

This week’s student spotlight is Nolan Bartlett, a senior Business Administration major graduating this May.
Nolan may not have a specific “dream job” in mind, but he is driven by the goal of achieving a successful business and starting it from the ground up. He wants to make a positive impact on both his future customers and his community. Eager to dive into his career, Nolan is focused on gaining valuable experiences across different industries in order to apply that later on with his future projects. During his time with JWU, he has gained valuable experience by also being involved in student DECA last year and by also being a part of the mixed Martial Arts club for the past two years.
Nolan stated that the main reason why he likes business administration is because it is a very diverse field. He has shared many different classes with students from all types of backgrounds and this gave him new perspectives and broadened his way of thinking. Nolan’s advice for current and incoming business students is that you need to prioritize networking. “You can’t have business without other people,” he states. “It might be difficult to get out of your comfort zone and connect with others, but it’ll make reaching your long-term career goals much easier.”
In the fall of 2024, he embarked on his study abroad journey to Tokyo, Japan and this was an experience that he did not take for granted. His favorite part of the trip was the easy transportation and vibrant nightlife of Tokyo, as well as the breathtaking shrines and temples in Japan, making all of it an unforgettable experience, along with the friendships he made while studying abroad. Living in Japan has helped Nolan realize that he can take his ambitions anywhere in the world as long as he always puts in the discipline and work. Nolan strongly encourages students to study abroad in Japan and embrace new cultures and explore new ways of life.
To prepare for his career post-graduation, Nolan is working as an intern this spring with Horizon Healthcare Partners in Providence. Through this internship, Nolan has learned a lot about business operations in non-profit organizations, and can't wait to start his business career!
🙏🏻Thank you Nolan for sharing your journey with us!
