PASA's AfterZone and Hub expanded learning programs inspire middle and high school youth to love learning. Hands-on fun is the name of the game.

In the last ten years, PASA has built two expanded learning initiatives in collaboration with the City of Providence, the Providence Public Schools and the local community— the AfterZone for middle school, and the Hub for high school. By working in tandem with one another, the Hub and the AfterZone have helped nearly 10,000 young people in Providence stay on track to graduate and engaged in their own learning with multiple and diverse learning pathways from 6th grade to graduation.

Your gift powers opportunity across an entire city - from transportation, partnerships with local experts, and the coordination that makes hundreds of hands-on experiences available to young people throughout the year, from baseball diamonds to campfire cooking to debate club.

And your gift shows up in real moments.

Like Tonya (name anonymized), a student at Roger Williams who wasn’t originally part of an after-school art program but joined during a Thanksgiving project where students were making cards for elderly residents in a nursing home. Tonya, a talented young artist, chose to make multiple cards because the project felt meaningful to her and she loves making people happy through her art. After that experience, she continued coming to the program, deepening her art skills and staying connected to her fellow artists and the teaching artist who led the program.

This is what your gift makes possible. Young people finding what they love, building confidence, and using their talents to connect with others and their future.

Executive Director, Providence After School Alliance - Providence, RI 01/27/2026

📣PASA Launches National Search for Executive Director📣

The search for our next Executive Director is being led by Eos Transition Partners. You can help us spread the word by sharing this post!

As longtime friends of PASA, you've been with us through two decades of growth and transformation. You know what keeps us showing up every day after school: seeing a middle schooler who "doesn't do nature stuff" end up knee-deep in the Woonasquatucket with binoculars, completely absorbed.

Moments like these are possible because PASA brings together schools, community-based organizations, city leadership, and families to create a dynamic and high-quality out-of-school time ecosystem across Providence. Whether you’ve been part of this work as a partner, volunteer, funder, school staff person, or family member who trusted us with your young person’s time, you’ve helped build a system that serves more than 1,200 youth each year.

Together, we’ve expanded access to high-quality after-school and summer learning that builds confidence and life skills, supports academic and economic outcomes, and established PASA and Providence as a national model for how cities can invest in adolescents beyond the school day.

Now, PASA is starting a new chapter. We’re excited to announce that our board is launching a national search for an Executive Director who will lead this collective work into its third decade—and we wanted you to be among the first to know.

We're looking for someone who will help us keep building on what we've created together, deepening partnerships across the city and forging new ones. But most importantly, someone who will continue to make sure that every Providence adolescent can experience the belonging, discovery, and support that only out-of-school time offers. Whether sailing on Narragansett Bay or hitting the mats in wrestling scrimmages, PASA's AfterZone and Hub programs create moments youth carry with them.

PASA’s work is also deeply integrated into the life of the city and its schools.

"PASA is one of the City’s most important partners in supporting young people and families, and has helped Providence show the country what’s possible when a city invests in young people beyond the school day. PASA strengthens our schools, helps my office advance citywide learning goals, supports working families, and gives students the confidence and skills to imagine new futures for themselves."
— Mayor Brett Smiley, PASA Board Chair

"Providence Public Schools is proud of our partnership with PASA. PASA’s programs help keep students engaged, supported, and connected to learning during the out-of-school hours, reinforcing the social-emotional skills and habits that matter for success in school."
— Dr. Javier Montañez, Providence Public Schools Superintendent, PASA Board Member.

We’re proud of the trust and close relationships we’ve built across Providence with city and school leaders, community partners, and most importantly, with young people and their families.

With that foundation in place, PASA is seeking a values-aligned Executive Director to steward this work into its third decade, strengthen our partnerships, and help shape PASA’s next chapter.

This search is being conducted by Eos Transition Partners. We invite you to share this opportunity with your networks and encourage candidates who are inspired by collaborative leadership and youth-centered systems to learn more.

Sincerely,

PASA’s Executive Director Search Committee
