A parent-cooperative preschool for families seeking a play-oriented program At East Side Nursery School young children learn by doing.

We believe that learning is an interactive process that requires active thinking and experimenting. As educators we set the stage for children to learn through child-initiated, child-directed, and teacher-supported activities. These activities encourage each child to explore, experiment, and grow at his or her own rate of development.

We love our community.
The and worked together to create a new rock garden on Wayland Ave. We couldn’t be happier with how it so beautifully frames our East Side Nursery School sign. Thank you! We’re excited to watch as it grows.

The students watered and sang (!) to their seeds, and now we have plants. The zinnias and corn appeared quickly while the carrots and watermelons took a bit more time, but that makes sense because everything grows at its own speed. Now they’re all ready to go home.

The teachers found Sneaky Bob reading in the group area this morning. Is he plotting an amazing escape like Inky?

Mud pies, mud soup, mud pizza, mud cake. We’re really enjoying our mud kitchen at East Side Nursery School, but watch out for those high fives!

Seeds, roots, stems, leaves, flowers… it was a big week for plants. We learned about the parts of plants and tried them at snack time. We’re sprouting beans in our windows and selecting our own favorite seed to care for by using a seed map. East Side Nursery School students practice science, math, empathy and patience all in the same lesson!

The students practiced celebrating others by inviting their moms and special grown ups to our annual Teas. They painted surprise crowns in ways their mothers would love, decorated sweet treats with their mothers’ favorite flavors and colors, and created centerpieces and a banner to decorate. We talked about how we feel when we are the gift givers and shared quotes about what we love about our moms. Sweetness all around.
