Thank you, St. Andrew's School and the special donors who made such a fabulous summer opportunity available to our guys!
They learned, the laughed, they made new friends, they challenged themselves and they built new skills.
From squash to break dancing, forensics, chess, strength and conditioning, pickleball and marital arts, the offerings were incredible! So many things our boys have never had the chance to try!
We want to give a HUGE shout out to Charley, Nicole, Tanya, Ahmad, Gabriel and all the camp staff for designing and delivering such a fun and enriching program! Our boys loved every minute!

Who says boys don't read?
Reading is just one of many great things the boys are doing this summer at the San Miguel Summer Program at St. Andrew's School!
Teamwork
Brotherhood
Academic confidence
Persistence
Consistency
Kindness
Curiosity
Some call these soft skills, but in fact, they have always been the foundation of a San Miguel education.
Many thanks again to the donors and to St. Andrew's School who have made this summer learning adventure such a blast for the boys!

Fishing, archery, overnight backpacking hikes, soccer, tennis, waterskiing, sailing... these are only a fraction of the offerings at Camp Pemigewassett in Wentworth, NH.
For six years, Miguel Men have had the opportunity to attend Camp Pemi, which aside from all of the above, gives boys the opportunity to participate in inter-camp competitions, build leadership skills, discover new talents, and gain independence.
Juan discovered two years ago that he is a talented archer and has pursued that ever since;
Jaeden survived a four-day backpacking trip;
Josiah participated in a three-day backpacking trip and an inter-camp swim meet;
And Jam took on two leadership positions this year, Fishing Program Assistant and assistant head waiter in the mess hall.
We are deeply grateful to SMS board member and Camp Pemi alum, Bill Greene for connecting us with the camp seven years ago, to Assistant Director Pat Clare who supports our boys and their families, and to all those who support the generous scholarships for our Miguel Men.

Last night, for their last night of the trip, the Homestead group was invited to dinner at the house where the Brothers working with La Salle Educational Center, Br. Peter and Br. Walter, live.
Also visiting from the Brothers community at Manhattan University was Br. Ed Shields, FSC who shared with the group his path to the Christian Brothers and some stories of his over 50 years in religious life. Also living at the house are two young men, Marcos and Raphael, participating in the Bold Brothers program.
Br. Walter, originally from Nicaragua, didn't only cook up an incredible meal of burgers and his specialty "Cowboy Salad", but he then told the story of the namesake of the Brothers' house, Blessed James Miller, FSC, an American-born Brother who was martyred in Guatemala in 1982 for his work as a missionary with the poor. He was beatified in 2019 by Pope Francis. Read his story- he is an inspiration to us all.
Today the group heads out for some fun with gators and an airboat ride before heading back to RI.
At the least, these incredible young men will have stories of the heat, the mosquitos and shared meals with their San Miguel brothers to share with their families and friends. But perhaps another seed has been planted as well. Maybe they have felt a first call to teach, to serve again, or to lead a life of faith and compassion, advocating for those without a voice.
