Moderated by Kaitlyn O’Malley and Melissa Mardo, this workshop will focus on how white people can begin their individual journeys towards anti-racist work through self-reflection. Participants will receive relevant context, guiding prompts, and action items to examine their complicity in dominant white culture.
Kaitlyn O’Malley is the senior associate director in the Providence College Office of Academic Services and the director of the Friar Foundations program. As a program coordinator in the Feinstein Institute for Public Service at Providence College, Melissa Mardo cultivates local and international partnerships for students in and outside of the classroom.
"She was a beloved colleague and friend to her coworkers and an invaluable mentor to her students," said Dr. Bryan D. Marinelli, director of academic services and the Writing Center at PC.
"The lengths that she would go to in supporting students with disabilities were truly awe-inspiring, and she never sought thanks or special recognition. She was satisfied knowing that she had done everything she could to support them to the best of her ability.”
Fresh Check Day is sponsored by the Office of Residence Life, Personal Counseling Center, Providence College Campus Ministry, the Providence College Office of Academic Services, the Center for Orientation, Transitions, and Leadership, Student Activities and Cultural Programming, Providence College Friars, and a number of student organizations.
