The Class of 2020 will be celebrated during a virtual ceremony on Sunday to recognize their achievements. They will also be welcomed into the alumni family before their official graduation in October. At this time, we would like to congratulate these three Copy Editors as well as any senior member of the The Cowl. Living through the Covid-19 pandemic has not been ideal, however, for The Class of 2020 it will be a unique and memorable experience that will unite them for years to come. Congratulations and GO FRIARS!

Swan Songs 2020 04/30/2020

Kerr Torpey and Editor-in-Chief of The Cowl Shares:

"Today would have been the release of my final issue as Editor-in-Chief of The Cowl. Every year, as part of our big finale, we put together an insert for our commencement where each graduating editor and writer has a chance to write their "swan songs" and say goodbye to The Cowl. Feeling like the Class of 2020 needs as many opportunities for closure as possible, I felt it important to carry on and complete the insert remotely to give my staff a chance to say goodbye and myself (and the copy editors!) one final project to complete.

So, here is our parting gift!

Thank you to everyone at The Cowl for your years of friendship, hard work, fun, and love! You will be forever in my heart."

The Cowl staff could not be more appreciative and blessed to have Kerry as our leader. She will go on to do amazing things as well as all of the other seniors who will make this year of The Cowl go down in history.

Hannah Langley '21 pays tribute to Sergeant Major Gary P. Fortunato who passed away suddenly on April 3, 2020. She shares, "What is the definition of a hero? Some common definitions include, “an illustrious warrior,” “a person admired for achievements and noble qualities,” or “one who shows great courage,” but for all those who knew Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Gary P. Fortunato ‘00SCE of the Providence College Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Patriot Battalion, he was all of these and more."

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Sergeant Major Gary P. Fortunato.

The 2020 Commencement Speaker is out of this world! Dr. Mae C. Jemison is the first woman of color to go into space, serving as a NASA Astronaut for six years. She is an engineer, physician, author of several books, and founder of technology consulting firms and an international science camp for teenagers. Dr. Jemison is a woman of many accomplishments and we are over the moon to welcome her to the 2020 Commencement Ceremony.
